hi all...as you can see he signed "Ruth" twice, as he made the check out to his wife Claire for $1000. a PSA 8 example just sold in SCP for around $4000 (can't tell if the prices on their site includes juice or not?)...

Hi MS, Nice check. It used to be mine. I had originally purchased it at the St. Louis National convention back in the late 80's. I consigned it with Mastro Auctions a couple years back. It was the center piece of my collection along with a Ty Cobb check. I had this Ruth check professionally framed and matted with a nice picture of the Babe. Unbeknownst to me, when I dropped it off at Mastro's office, they dismantled it and sent the check to be graded. It had cost me $350 for the framework and another $40 for the picture(which I had purchased directly from the Hall of Fame). Needless to say I was alittle upset that they did that without first consulting me. I had a little chat with Doug Allen after I found out. I asked for the framework and picture back, but it mysteriously disappeared. My Cobb was done the same way as the Ruth and was going to be put in the following auction, and I told him if he was going to do the same thing that I would be back up there to pick it back up. He told me they felt they could get a better price if it was graded rather than framed. If I can figure out how to send a pic of it, I will show you what it looked like when it was framed.

Wow, that's cool that it used to belong to you...sorry to hear that Mastro's broke it apart, i would much rather have it matted & framed with a nice pic, as it sounds like it was previously. i'm in no rush to sell it, i have really enjoyed owning it over the last year (got it in REA's auction from 2008). i'm just putting some feelers out there, but will most likely continue to hold it and enjoy it.

Small world, isn't it? I had it displayed in my den next to the Cobb and looked at it every time I walked into the room. The check was mounted on a piece of 1/8"foam board that made a nice 3-d effect. I totally enjoyed having it too. Someday I will get another. Keep watching, I will get a pic for you as soon as I figure out how to do it. I think you will like it.

I love the way the check is placed on top of the photo as opposed to
being matted and partially having some of the check not displayable.

And Sarno, If I knew you were selling the Cobb & Ruth checks when I saw you in June
I wouldda snagged em

Here's a shot of Sarno proudly holding the Ruth & Cobb checks from 2 months ago after our jaunt to the Bronx

wow, as Jay said, i love the way it was positioned on an angle, that's pretty unique...

Jay- wasn't planning on selling them at that point...otherwise, would've just given 'em to ya. ;)

p.s. whata handsome guy in that pic! :)

Great Posts. Good luck selling the ruth check. I am so tired of hearing about fake autographs that I purchased a Ruth Check and a Cobb check last year with PSA slabbs. when it came time to frame them it took a long time to find the right pictures. we have an amazing framer locally who worked with me and we came up with the following. It was important to me to frame the checks with the PSA numbers.

Wow you're framing guy is great. Like how he incororates the PSA slab
into the matted piece. Both pieces look fantastic
