Lou Gehrig ?

I find this fascinating. Does anyone out there have a photo of Lou at that age, and is this him? Seems like a hell of a deal for one of you guys, if you can prove its him.

Well, I was investigating this intently but didn't want to "out" the auction. After my research, while I can't prove it IS Lou, I can't prove it ISN'T. I won't risk it, but someone else might want to.

I think it would be impossible to ever prove it's Gehrig.

Per wiki, Lutheran confirmation is at 14 years of age which would be 1917 in Gehrig's case. Picture of Gehrig in 1917 taken from Jonathan Eig's bio Luckiest Man. Boy in the eBay photo looks a bit younger than fourteen but the two don't look much alike, particularly the hair. That right ear might be telling but I am thinking no.

The resemblance is uncanny... You guys are so blind, you'd make great umpires.

Kidding aside, Lou had wavy and curly hair and the kid appears to lack adequate lobes.

I was thinking no for a couple of reasons. First is the hair, it just doesn't seem right. Second is why would a boyhood friend get a photo of a confirmation picture ? That doesn't make sense. It is a tough call since you cant see the eyes but the hair seems off as does the whole pop was his friend and got a confirmation picture.

I will say the guy offered a money back guarantee to me. I think that the seller BELIEVES it is Gehrig, and is not running a scam... I just don't think at this point that it is correct.

We all have stories like this where our memory is not the best. In cards... every person over age 60 seems to remember their mom throwing out their cards and comics, and surprisingly, every single one of those collections included several Mantle RCs, in their mind.

Of course, what good is a money back guarantee if you can never prove or disprove it?

I would think if Lou and his dad really were childhood friends, this could be evidenced. For example, I can prove I knew various childhood friends by showing my middle school or high school yearbooks. If your grandmother was in the same high school class as Joe DiMaggio, or was the same age and grew up on the same street and went to the same church, I think this could researched and proven.

Heh... exactly why I decided to pass :p

At some point, if it was real, I'm sure some other photos would come up that could possibly prove it (very long shot), but I doubt he'd honor that guarantee 3 years from now, or whenever else anything could be proven.

Impossible to prove unequivocally, but this thread and pics could be very compelling.
