1917 World Series Trophy Ball?
Does anyone know what this is? I did not bid on it because I did not know anything about it, but I do find it interesting.

No proof offered that this anything but a ratty old ball with some writing on it. I'm no expert but most trophy balls I have seen have at least a notation as to the score of the game.
|
I am leaning towards some sort of home made ball that someone wrote on also, but there is the score on the ball in the 3rd picture.
|
He said the writing was mostly likey add years down the road, because i asked why the writing is white because when baseballs are made they are white. So why would someone use white on white?
|
What stood out to me as well was the condition of the writing versus the condition of the ball. Pretty clearly, the writing was written long after the supposed game. One nice thing about genuine antique trophies is one can fairly judge the relative age of the ink or paint. If the paint itself appears to be from the 1800s, that strongly supports that a 1874 trophy ball is genuine.

Anyone see the ball was relisted and sold for $821. But know it was mostly hit by Joe Jackson.

How in Blue Heaven can you prove authenticity on that item. Some people who bid are just idiots, or practice blind faith in everything in life.
