Fort Pulaski and Baseball

This past weekend, my girlfriend and I took a trip to Savannah for my birthday. I have always wanted to visit the town but never had the chance before. While there, we made a side trip over to Fort Pulaski which is inbetween Savannah and Tybee Island, maybe 15 miles from Savannah. While touring the old fort, I learned that during the Civil War, soldiers at Fort Pulaski often played baseball to escape the boredom of garrison life. One of the earliest known photographs of a baseball game was taken inside Fort Pulaski, and featured members of the 48th New York Volunteer Infantry.

Haha - no, but finding parking on Tybee was a pain because of the filming. We had lunch at Sting Ray's and the waitress filled us in on Hannah Montana.

Savannah is a beautiful town. We stayed at the Marshall House and had a great time.

Savannah has always been one of my favorite citys. My wife actually lived on Tybee before we started dating, and I've spent a lot of time walking through St. Bonaventure cemetery years ago. I'm sad to say I havent spent much time looking into Savannah baseball history, I must work on that.

Joe Jax spirit haunts a few locations downtown. Charming little city and no wonder Sherman refused to torch her.
