This acrylic rendition of a 1915 Cracker Jack Christy Mathewson was painted by noted Canadian Group of Seven artist, Jennifer Ettinger.

I have a few pieces of original art.

The Eddie Plank is from Helmar Beer and is scheduled to become a smaller card.
Hopefully it will be in their next series, perhaps this summer.

Here are 2 originals by Dick Perez, of Tony Perez. The latter is the original painting used to create his Perez-Steele HOF Card. It came from REA a few years ago, and I still haven't gotten around to framing it...

I guess you could call this a Cleveland version of a Willard Mullin.

Lou Darvas was a longtime, heralded cartoonist for the Cleveland Press. This is the original artwork for a two-column cartoon that ran in the Press Sports section sometime in the 1950s.

Mark. Those Perez/Perez paintings are just fabulous. How did you acquire the first one?

Rob D. Boy do I love that Darvas. I have a Lou Darvas of the Bambino swinging in a tribute that came out in the Sporting News in 1948 the day before Babe Ruth Day at the stadium. It hangs in my living room (no wife). However my girlfriend is coming out from China tomorrow and maybe I can get her to take a picture of it and load it into my laptop. Darvas was a great cartoonist for sure.

This original drawing is from the Topps Vault and was featured on the back of Maris' 1966 Topps card:

We really have some similar taste... I also have an original Mullin of the Bum and the same type of Topps Cartoon art. I will try to dig both up, and post them before too long.

Regarding the first Perez painting, it was also acquired from REA in the same auction. They had so many Dick Perez originals offered at once, that the prices remained fairly low. It was a unique opportunity, and in retrospect, I wish I tried harder for a few more. The only other piece I acquired at the time was the original Ty Cobb Watercolor used to make his Greatest Moments Card. A beautiful piece, which I sold a couple of years ago.

This is the original artwork for a Lucky Strike advertisement.

Cool piece Brock... What time-frame would you put on it.... guessing '40s? Also, have you ever found the actual Lucky Strike print ad to go with it? That would be really nifty!

It would have to be early 1940's at the very latest, as Lucky Strike packs changed over to the now familiar white version during the war in an effort to conserve the green and gold paint for the war effort. The art deco feel of this piece would make me guess its date to be 1930's.

I collect Lucky Strike memorabilia (mostly ads). They have always been my favorite cigarette, and their ad artwork was normally outstanding.

This has to be one of the Best COU cards I have seen. Bought it on Ebay about 2yrs ago. Card looks and feels as real as my others I had. Graded COU by SGC then I sent to PSA and it graded an A because of trimming. Thats another story. Now it is just a Lesson to me and others that there are great artist (counterfieters) out there. And yes I removed it from the Slab

Thanks for the info JBirkholm. I never did much research as to dating it. I just assumed it was 40's-50's time frame.
To answer your question your Mark, I have yet to see the print ad (assuming the design made it to print). Would love to see it if its out there though.

Jodi's info on the green pack would indicate early '40s at the latest. Can't argue with fact, I suppose. I just thought the design and player's uniform looked more modern. Something about it looks more streamlined and tight-fitting than what one normally associates with the '30s era. Either way, it is a visually stunning piece... hope that someday you discover the actual print ad to accompany. Wouldn't it be cool to leaf through an old magazine and stumble upon it?

Here's another Sporting News cartoon, this of Sam Chapman. Somewhat unusual in that colour background is present in the drawing, although I'm not sure whether that is just part of the printing process and whether it shows in the printed cartoon

Thanx to Scott Gaynor for auctioning this, which I bought for myself as a Christmas present. I was a bit shocked that the lovely wife agreed.

Haven't received these yet (hope I don't jinx the postal delivery), but wanted to post the images of these, as I feel these are well done and was hoping someone would know something about the artist or what photos the poses may have been studied from?

Painted on canvas and in need of a cleaning, I understand. Any advice on determining how to decide on a prof. restorer would be appreciated. Max, could I impose on you and Jennifer for advice? Thanks!...chris

Original Signed Virgil Ross "Bat" Boy Sketch from "Baseball Bugs"
 

Of the very many characters Ross animated, he is most closely associated with Bugs Bunny, but also did a great deal of work involving Daffy Duck, Yosemite Sam, Tweety, and many others, including Road Runner and Wile E. Coyote.

Virgil Ross received the highest awards available in his profession: the Motion Picture Screen Cartoonists Golden Award (1984) and the Winsor McCay Award (1988). Four of the cartoons he had animated won Oscars.

"GRAND SLAM" Painting by Spalenka
 

One of my favorite artists is named Greg Spalenka. I was lucky to buy this original collage painting from him titled "Grand Slam". It was used in a magazine article describing how baseball has become dirtied due to it's corruption of huge saleries, players going to anyone that will pay the most & such. It has ripped up little pieces of a real dollar bill and has some 3 demensionality. these are from a collection of 49 one-of-a-kind ink drawings on the message half (back side) of postcards, 16 of them (shown below) featuring cartoon-style Baseball drawings relating to the 1912-1913 Minor League (Southern Association) Birmingham Barons...the front side of the postcards features different views of Birmingham, Alabama (sadly, none of views on front includes Rickwood Field)
