A Cane for Mr. Ward, Jr.?
 

This item ended yesterday on ebay http://tinyurl.com/kvb543

It was advertised as John Ward's cane. I haven't googled extensively or re-read his biography to confirm whether he was in fact a "jr." or whether any other information matches. I did a quick search and couldn't find any reference to the "Stars" BBC club for him

Can anyone advise? Even if not his (as I would initially suspect), still a pretty cool item (especially if you have a sprained ankle, and want to impress your friends with your cane!). .

Whether it was Wards or not that is a beautiful cane..

If we are talking John Montgomery Ward, according to his biography, his father's name was James. Therefore, he could not have been a junior.

Also, with other known John Ward items I don't recall ever seeing a "Jr." after his name.

Unlikely it belonged to John M. Ward but still beautiful.

Canes such as these were often given to ballplayers in the 19th century. I remember buying an incredible lot in an auction about 15 years ago that included Dan Brouthers cane and a gold medal he won for being a champion batter. I know these were brokered to Barry Halper, but for some reason I can't recall if they were in his sale.

I also remember another cane given to Charles Comiskey that was equally stunning.
