Does anyone know if I am allowed to say that I take only Paypal E-checks for an item I sell on ebay, in my listing? This would be in the vintage card category...I looked on payment options and it didn't say yea or nay.....:confused:

I don't normally take e-checks so I am not for sure, but would eBay care if you do? As long as you take paypal, would they really care.

Unless there is no fee for e-checks...

No, you are required to accept card funded payments.

That's not quite what I meant. Honestly I might want to sell a few things before our next auction to raise money but don't care for the high Paypal rates. Taking a Paypal e-check is only $5....though I know I have to wait for the money, which is fine. I wonder if I could put "Paypal E-check preferred"?

e checks are great cause there is no paypal fee except $5 1 time charge no matter how large the item! I say go for it, great idea Leon, Dan.

I think there is an option to only accept e-checks. Maybe not...

I don't think that there is any policy that prohibits making such a statement in the listing, however, by policy the buyer must still have the option to pay via a credit card.

There is a limit, I think $10K, at which point PayPal may require that a buyer pay via echeck rather than credit card.

Particularly with higher priced items the credit card does provide the buyer an additonal layer of protection/recourse, and therefor comfort in use. In contrast it does provide the seller with higher fees and angst.

There used to be a filter in the Paypal profile section to exclude payments made by credit card but now in the overly friendly buyer environment, that ebay is fostering, that is not a possibility.

I email Paypal customer service about the $5.00 echeck fee a few months ago. They said it was no longer an option. Same rates as the regular Paypal. Was that wrong?

Not quite:

"Fees for receiving eCheck payments will not exceed $5.00 USD per transaction"


There is still an e-check option (as above) that is only $5 for business or premier accounts. With enough (not really a whole lot) of transactions you automatically become "premier", I believe. I know I never did anything and got premier status...

both staggering and disturbing that the user agreement has been changed 172 times in two years. constantly making up new rules and creating a new moving target. bad business.
