Winchester Buckleback Catchers Mitt

I have located an old Winchester buckleback catchers mitt at a local antique store. It is in poor to fair condition with some of the lacing missing and lots of wear. The Winchester patch is intact on the back of the mitt, and the Winchester label is still visable in front although very worn. They are asking $55.00 but might take less. Is this something I should try to purchase? I really don't know that much about equipment. Thanks, Joe

Pictures of the mitt which I purchased today, can be found below.

Hi Joe,
It sounds like something you should buy for 55. If you get it, please post some pictures.

Absolutely. I agree with Matt. Any Winchester glove you can get for $55 with a visible tag and stamping is totally worth it. Winchester is probably the most desirable cross-collectible. Winchester gloves and mitts always sell for a premium and any 20's cathers or earlier mitts you can get for under $55 is probably a good deal.

Here are the pictures of the Winchester Mitt I purchased. As you can see the condition is pretty rough. Would this be a candidate for restoration or should it be left as is?

Nice score....once cleaned up that glove will be a real beauty. The guys over at the glove forum can tell you exactly how to clean and refurbish that glove.

I decided to do some work on the Winchester catchers mitt using the recommendations of some members of the vintage glove forum. I relaced the glove and used a conditioner on it called Chelsea Leather Food. Here are a couple of pictures. I was pleased with the results.
