Legendary Winnings

Looking at my account looks like I won 5 of the 9 lots I was bidding on!:eek::D:D:cool::cool:

Abravefan11 04-30-2009 06:44 PM

I threw in a few auto bids after several hours of frustration and none held up.

Kotton King 04-30-2009 06:45 PM

0 for 22. That's alright though.

Won this beauty last night as part of a great lot split with 2 other forum members.

barrysloate 05-01-2009 08:15 AM

Though not baseball, I did win two lots of large cents which I collect.

But I do want to make a point: I left substantial ceiling bids on both lots and won them for multiple increments below my max. Given what's gone on in the past, I felt it was important to share that with the board. And it is most appreciated.

Bicem 05-01-2009 08:32 AM

Given what's gone on in the past, were you not at all worried making those ceiling bids Barry?

Was it a matter of just not wanting to stay up late?

asphaltman 05-01-2009 08:33 AM

I think with Barry it was definitely a matter of not wanting to stay up late. :)

barrysloate 05-01-2009 09:19 AM

Dave got it. The way I see it, unless you are willing to stay up until the bitter end you might as well leave a ceiling. And I decided I wanted to trust them, in some perverse way.

Kehfee 05-01-2009 09:21 AM

I got 15 T205's but posting the pics would be... effort.

You guys don't want to see them anyways. :)

botn 05-01-2009 09:38 AM

I won the Wagner Celluloid Schedule. http://www.legendaryauctions.com/Lot...px?lotid=96909

calvindog 05-01-2009 09:42 AM

Greg, I have a vague memory of a slabbed version of that schedule being on REA a couple years back -- and going for much higher than what you got yours at. Am I right?

geor952 05-01-2009 09:43 AM

kehfee,
Did you when the tinker, evers, and chance? That seemed like a good price. Congrats on 15 cards.
George

Some of us would like to see them

botn 05-01-2009 09:47 AM

Jeff,

As always you are correct. It was in 2007 that REA sold a strong SGC 60 for for 7K, not sure if that is with the juice or not.

Greg

chiprop 05-01-2009 10:14 AM

If I didn't own it, you would have had to pay more. Great card, you will be very happy with it! The one in Legendary had a few scratches and what looks to be water damage, but to save $3,000.00, I think I like yours more. Congrats!!

I picked up the 1898 Chicago Team Photo w/Frank Chance Rookie............

rhettyeakley 05-01-2009 11:31 AM

This is the only thing I won, there were definitely some deals to be had in the auction.

nolemmings 05-01-2009 11:50 AM

Agreed

I only won this one, but I'm giddy that it went well below my max. HOFer, available only in m101-5, great condition, and a VERY VERY TOUGH small block back.

Todd

Nice pick up and only the 2nd or 3rd small block Gimbels I have ever seen....

wrapperguy 05-01-2009 12:54 PM

Did you see the shipping?

Won one lot, a $200 group of "Baseball Leader" pins. The 20% juice is high plus I get hit with another $21.60 in IL sales tax, and they want $24.81 to ship 8 dime sized pins about 30 minutes North of their offices. This should cost $6 at the most. If they refuse to reduce shipping, I will end up paying $286.41 for an item won with a $200 bid. I realize it is not much money, but paying an extra 43% seems a little much. Will have to re-think bidding with them.

rhettyeakley 05-01-2009 02:25 PM

Well, they are charging me $37.66 to ship 2 pins about the size of a silver dollar each. The final bid was only $350, so it seems a little silly. Imagine trying to charge that on ebay (or anywhere else). I wonder if they still have some leftover tape?

barrysloate 05-01-2009 02:45 PM

I got charged $42.00 for two small lots with a value of $2000. I could ship it insured for half that amount. Maybe they will consider reducing some of those fees.

Matt 05-01-2009 02:50 PM

My shipping charge was $30 over what I expected. :(

Brian Weisner 05-01-2009 02:52 PM

Hi Barry,
I guess I got a deal.... Two slabbed cards worth $3200 for 41.25...

How nice.... Be well Brian

calvindog 05-01-2009 03:15 PM

My shipping is $198.

Rob D. 05-01-2009 04:08 PM

Honestly, Jeff, I'm surprised you're not required to drive to Illinois to pick up the cards yourself.

botn 05-01-2009 04:31 PM

$56.51 for one slabbed card valued at 3900. It had better be at my door first thing Monday.

Jim VB 05-01-2009 04:49 PM

In another, recent auction, (not Mastro or their spawn) I won a lot for just under $30,000. The juice added 10%. I was charged $30 for shipping and the package arrived by Fedex, one day after my check hit his hands.

And some people don't like that auctioneer. Go figure.

There's no pleasing everyone.

batsballsbases 05-01-2009 05:48 PM

Legendary Winnings

Mine was 58.94 Funny it looks to me the the shipping and insurance was also charged on the "Juice" price not what the lot was won for. I guess they want to make sure the 20% fee is covered by the insurance!! Sweet deal!:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek: Leon you sholud have never made it this easy with the smilies!! Gotta loveem!!:D:D

asphaltman 05-01-2009 06:33 PM

So tell me you guys are now out of money for REA :D

philliesphan 05-01-2009 06:56 PM

I was taken aback

at $61.50 in shipping costs for a single baseball card! One card!!!

Rob D. 05-01-2009 07:19 PM

Do you mind saying what the selling price was? I can see a card that sells for $15,000 costing more to ship than one that sold for $1,000. Don't get me wrong, Mastro/Lengendary long has been known for absurd shipping charges, I'm just not sure it's fair to take into account only what's being shipped and not the package's value, too.

Rob -- what I purchased was nowhere near that range...

And I actually somewhat disagree with your assessment.

With Registered Mail, you can insure for $15,000 for $30.10. For $5,000 under $20-

Rob, the shipping charge is so high I could have bought a plane ticket for the two cards and gotten them a free meal and drinks on the flight to NYC.

Rob D. 05-01-2009 07:35 PM

Well, I know that Mastro/Legendary says on its invoice that it doesn't ship using the USPS, so the registered-mail option is a moot point. Whether the decision to not use the USPS is a wise one is another discussion. I don't know enough about the costs of shipping via UPS and FedEx to comment on how the value of a parcel affects the shipping charge.

And to be clear, I'm not defending Mastro's/Lengendary's shipping charges. I'll leave that for others to do. I'm just saying that it seems logical that the value of a package should be figured into the equation.

Steve D 05-01-2009 08:32 PM

I won the Dave Winfield autographed game-used bat. $38.26 to ship on a $360 final bid (w/juice).

Steve

Jim VB 05-01-2009 09:31 PM

You guys are just thinking of this as "Shipping." But it's really "Shipping & HANDLING!"

It that damn "HANDLING" that runs up the cost.

chiprop 05-01-2009 09:35 PM

Rob - Nice avatar :)

sporteq 05-02-2009 11:19 AM

I picked this up ..

The Cubs photo is great, some might call it a work of art.

Rob D. 05-03-2009 07:15 PM

I think the following is a pretty fair comparison regarding shipping and handling charges.

Group of eight oversized, graded cards -- total bid amount $1,700. Legendary shipping charge: $35.04

Group of seven oversized, graded cards, plus six standard-sized graded cards -- total bid amount $11,800. REA shipping charge: $25

The distance from Legendary's offices to my house is about 200 miles less than from REA's offices to my house.

calvindog 05-05-2009 10:26 AM

I received an amended shipping total from Legendary today; my shipping cost was reduced from $198 to $35.

Jeff - nice! How'd you swing that? I emailed two days ago about the shipping costs and haven't heard anything.

calvindog 05-05-2009 10:53 AM

Matt, it's not what you know, it's who you know. :)

Seriously, just contact Legendary (as you did) and I think any bizarre shipping costs are being fixed as per the email I received from Doug.

botn 05-05-2009 11:02 AM

I emailed them within moments of getting the invoice and they never replied nor amended mine, so I paid it. Guess I need to start posting negative comments about them on the board.

Mrc32 05-05-2009 12:18 PM

BS

That is BS. My shipping was $39.59. How is it possible that their invoice says one thing you can email them and get your shipping cut? Why not just email out the correct total the first time.

I already paid my invoice-- the day it was emailed to me.

Super service Legendary. Super.

asphaltman 05-05-2009 12:42 PM

Another steller customer service move. I didn't win anything with them this go around. I know with REA this year I had a bill for $2150 and the shipping was a flat $20, shipping was also a flat $20 last year when my bill was about $3k.

Matt 05-05-2009 12:51 PM

Dave - it's not fair to compare. REA only takes a 17.5% BP so they can absorb more of the shipping cost. Mastro takes 20% so they have less...oh wait...
