1954 Esskay Meats Neil Berry H&S for $10K!!!
Posted By: Paul S
A real real tough post-war issue. Maybe some registry competition. If not whales, then selling off other cards to finance it. Just speculating, but since Berry is the first card, alphabetically (they're unnumbered), it could be hard to find w/o rubberband and other #1 card marks. As a general rule, Esskays did not make it out of the package in good condition in the first place -- throw in a hasty scissors job to separate them (I think they came paired). Outrageous price nonetheless.

1954 Esskay Meats Neil Berry H&S for $10K!!!
Posted By: Bob Lemke
. . . for "book" value if you're the Standard Catalog editor? Serious question. "Book" is $300 for Berry and all the other "commons" in VG. Do all the commons go up to 10Gs? What would a Berry sell for on eBay tomorrow?

Posted By: Anthony N.
Bob, I think in this case or in the case of any other thinly traded issue you have to note past realized prices. I know space can be an issue, but perhaps just stating that it's tough to pin down values, and past sales have been: etc etc. would have to suffice to provide a decent guideline.

Posted By: larry
with the oddball issues
noting that a particu;ar card sold for so much in auction is the way to go
the smr does that with psa cards
if the krause book would split in 2 so that pre 1980 is one book there would be plenty of room for notaopns
