Callahan HOF cards question

Posted By: Randy Trierweiler
I know these cards were issued from around 1950-1956 in set form, and updated each year with new inductees. The updated cards are obviously scarcer than the cards issued previously. My question is this,is there any variations as to the year printed on the back? My Frisch and Hornsby have 1950, my Dizzy Dean has 1952. Can anybody show where the years are different for the same card, or did they just reprint the previous years issues each time? Randy

My uncle gave me my set, a 1955 printing with its original box that he bought at Cooperstown as a boy, and it had a mix of card dates in it ranging from 1950 to 1955.

Sic Gorgiamus Allos Subjectatos Nunc

Posted By: Paul
I'm not so sure. I have a Connie Mack and it mentions his retirement after the 1950 season. I haven't looked at it in awhile, but I believe the biography has some additional information that made it pretty clear he had been retired for a couple of years when the card was issued. Mack was elected to the HOF in 1939. So shouldn't his card have been issued in 1950 with no mention of his retirement?

Posted By: Tim
The original set was issued in 1950 and as players were added the year of their induction was printed on the card. Mel Ott 1951, Dizzy Dean 1953, etc.

There are several variations with the only one concerning the date being the card boxingcardman mentioned, though I believe it is the Museum Interior.

Posted By: Randy Trierweiler
I was reading Dick Gilkeson's variation manual update from 1990 and he has this little tidbit in it. "Bender, Cochran, Eddie Collins, Dickey, Sisler, and the Museum views all have bio changes on back" .

Randy
