1835c Carver Baseball Boston Common Woodcut
Posted By: jason
1835c Boston Common Baseball Woodcut By Carver Chapbook

2nd of the 2 early baseball woodcut books I have just listed on ebay.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=330242065383&ssPa geName=STRK:MESE:IT&ih=014

The famous early woodcut by Robin Cover was used in a couple different publications in the early 1830’s - the most well known of these was The Book Of Sports published by S. Babcock.

Although the latter is very expensive and sought after by collectors, the very same prized baseball on Boston Common woodcut can be found in this less well known publication. It is titled Specimens of Penmanship and was printed sometime around 1835 (Sold By W. W. Baldwin – of Guilford i.e. New Haven County, Conn.)

The book is aesthetically pleasing design and besides the baseball sceen, has an attractive elephant illustration on the back. It is in remarkable condition for a 173 year old book.

I also have about 30 other very early American Baseball/Trap Ball/Hand Ball/Cricket chapbooks from 1801 - 1850 that I am willing to part with that are not currently on eBay.
