Posted By: Karl
The MLB Photostamp "type 2" is how I've seen some refer to the MLB stamps issued in 1970. They use the same front pictures as the very common 1969 MLB Photostamps, but are 1/8" less wide, and don't refer to an official collector's album on the backs as do the 1969 versions.

I've also heard that some of the Photostamps from both years have either dotted line or solid line variations under the "apply glue here" instructions on the backs, and whichever version is least common may also be described as a "type 2" variation. I don't collect variations, so I don't know much about this - I just want to make sure I don't buy another 1969 stamp when I only need the 1970 one.

Posted By: Karl
swartz1, are you saying the Standard Catalog is in error regarding the Photostamps? And consequently, the various on-line checklists are in error because they're following the Standard Catalog?

I know one dealer who is selling a 1970 Killebrew Photostamp with a "solid line" on its back (but the card is off-center, so I passed). He also has one with a "dotted line" which he identifies as 1969. Are you saying they're both variations from 1969? He sent me scans a year ago (I didn't save them), and the "1970" definitely did NOT have the dotted line.

Also, I was the underbidder on the following PSA 1970 Killebrew Photostamp on eBay a few months ago, and in the picture it has the long dashes (not the dots) on the back:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=300259695157

To everyone else, thanks for the offers, but if it's not on my list, I don't need it. I have everything else I want, including autographs.

Posted By: swartz1
First that PSA label is incorrect because it says "hand cut" and it is perforated...

Second...I was always under the assumption that the 1970's had the MLB logo on them...(currently I have a few for sale)

Thirdly...why is PSA denoting that as hand cut?

Finally...I learn something new everyday...that may be legit

thanks for the link...

Posted By: Karl
Swartz1 - I just posted a bunch of info about the Photostamps in the Postwar Cards forum that you might be interested in.

I'm told that the 1969s exist in 2 versions, so 432 possible, all hand-cut

I'm told that one of the two 1969 versions was re-issued in 1970, along with 75 new players, all NON-PERFORATED. I'm told the ONLY perforated stamps from either year is from one sheet of 12. So for 1970, there are 303 possible - 291 hand-cut and 12 perforated - but 216 of them are indistinguishable from the 1969s.

Please see my other posting for more specifics.

Posted By: swartz1
Nice information - I guess it also depends on how they (stamps) were issued...I have seen three different formats...

sheets, small book (4 to a page) and large book (12 as a center leaflet)

I have the 1970 book with the perforated sheet...Is this what you are looking for? I will have to check to see if killer is on the sheet...I assume he is based on the link that you showed previous...

again - nice concise info regarding the photostamps

swartz1

Posted By: Karl
Yes, Killebrew is supposed to be one of the 12 "perforated" 1970 Photostamps. I'm interested in one, but only at $15-$20 (or $30-$35 slabbed), and only if the centering is 50-50 or virtually 50-50.

FYI, just to make this more complicated - this dealer I talked to said that he has personally taken sheets of the perforated stamps and CUT THEM using a cutting board - to give them a cleaner, smooth edge! He's offered me a hand-cut-but-once-perforated 1970 Killebrew...
