1968 Topps Miscuts

2 Attachment(s)
I am trying to recreate the slit patterns for the 1968 Topps issue. Any uncut, miscut, or wrong-back images that forum members can share would be greatly appreciated. Specifically, material from then 3rd (197 to 283), 5th (371 to 457), or 7th series (523 to 598) is required for me to perform this task.

Cliff & I have been diligently working on the 3rd series and have approximately 50 of the 88 cards placed. We also know several other groups of 3 or 4 cards that we haven't successfully placed yet.

Here are a couple examples that we have been able to reconstruct from miscuts.

The 3rd series from 1968 consists of 88 cards. The cards are #192 ("the scores" version) plus cards 197 to 283. The sheet consists of two slits, with each slit having 132 cards. There are 8 different rows of cards, with 11 unique cards in each row. If the 8 different rows are identified as rows A through H, then slit A will have rows A through H, followed by A through D, while slit B will have rows E through H, then A through H.

The positions of all cards in row A and 9/11 in row H have been identified.

Row A is headed by card#230, Pete Rose. The other rows have the following leading cards:
row B: Dodgers Rookies (228)
row C: Norm Cash (256)
row D: Cubs Rookies (258)
row E: Jim Roland (276)
row F: Carroll Sembera (207)
row G: Checklist 4 (278)
row H: Moe Drabowsky (242)

The right end cards have mostly been identified. These are:
row A: Dark (237)
row B: Yaz checklist (192)
row C: Davis (265)
row D: TBD (currently suspect Satriano, #270, but needs to be confirmed)
row E: Alou (270)
row F: Brown (223)
row G: Rollins (243)
row H: Sanguillen (251)

In addition, the presence of the white lines on some cards has been identified as follows: cards in row A & E sometimes exhibit the line at the top. Cards in row D & H sometimes exhibit the white line at the bottom. Rows A & E are at the top of slit A & slit B respectively. while rows D & H occupy the bottom rows of those same slits.

To date, the positions of 50 of the 88 cards have been determined. We have groups of between 2 to 5 of many of the remaining cards, but have not yet positively identified their sheet locations.

Don't know why you never ask me if I have pictures of said sheets. As I have mentioned numerous times before I've been collecting them for close to 25 years.

Series 3 both sides, John

Well, that took all of the fun out of it. Do you have anything of 1963 Topps Baseball Series 2 or Series 7? I'm five cards short on Series 2 (Kaat, D. Brown, F. Howard, Ashburn, F. Torre) and there is a flaw on my Series 7 layout that drives me nuts.

Thank you for sharing the 3rd series sheets. Do you have anything for the 1968 series 5 or series 7?

Nothing to add for 1963, for series 2 I only had a few panels which matched the sheet you recreated.

Crappy pic of the 1968 series 5 right half.

Row 12 is cut off but is the same as row 4

1968 series 7, looks like cards were printed in blocks of 66

Lots of capless, old and airbrushed shots in 68 ( 69 impacted some too), compliments of Marvin Miller who was holding the player's license agreement hostage for a bigger cut, which he got. I think new stuff did not show up until the later 69 series cards

Thank you so much for those images. Yes, the 7th series in 1968 had 66 cards, so I would expect both slits to look the same, with six rows of 11 cards repeated 2x across each slit.

Do you by any chance have images of any slits from the 1963 issue? Series 2 or series 7?

In post #9 he said he had some partial 2nd Series sheets but the they align with the nearly complete sheet you and I put together, and apparently he doesn’t have anything of the 1963 7th Series Sheet.
