2009-10 New Jersey Nets: Worst Sports Team Ever?
We have in the New York area two pro basketball teams, the Knicks and Nets, who have a combined record of 3-32. Has there ever been a worse pair of teams in one city? How bad are the Nets? They may lose 70 games this year.
And they want to move these guys to Brooklyn? New Jersey can keep 'em. How did it get so bad in NYC? |
New Jersey can keep them I second that. We dont need anymore traffic anyway.
|
Richie- I live about a 15-20 minute walk from the proposed arena. People attending the games very well may be driving down my block looking for free parking. Who needs it.
|
I have to agree.........
The Nets are pretty bad.If they would ever allow a pro sports team to represent Las Vegas,I'm sure our Mayor-Oscar Goodman-would LOVE to have the Nets move here:D-I think he would love to have any sports team move here!!Good luck on NOT having the Nets move to your neck of the woods!!!

Clayton- they're all yours.
Our neighborhood of downtown Brooklyn is up in arms about the construction of the new arena. This area is already way too congested and overbuilt, and we don't need 15,000 people coming into town on game nights. And this has nothing to do with how bad the ballclub is. |
Barry, I worked 15 years in Metro Tech. I remeber the traffic.

There is a possibility the Nets and Islanders could end up in a proposed arena across from Citifield in Flushing, re-uniting two teams that used to share Nassau Coliseum. Islanders are more likely if this arena/convention center gets the OK to replace the "Iron Triangle" but Nets would be wooed. Subway is right there as is LI Rail Road and plenty of parking after Mets end their season in addition to whatever parking garages they build.

I live right down the street from Metrotech, on Clinton Street just south of Atlantic Avenue.
Bruce Ratner is public enemy #1 around these parts, and neighborhoods near the arena have been fighting him for years. They have been pretty successful but he now seems to be getting the upper hand. He knows nothing about basketball and is notoriously cheap. He jettisoned all the good players the Nets had, and left them with a shell of a team (although I am predicting they beat Charlotte tonight for their first win). Hopefully this new Russian owner, who is a billionaire and a big basketball fan, will start to sink money back into the team. Both the Knicks and the Nets have pretty much written off this season, and claim they will use the salary space to sign a superstar free agent. But I am no way convinced that LeBron James is coming to New York, and a player like Chris Bosh will transform the Knicks from a low lottery team to maybe a high lottery one. Even making the playoffs would be a stretch. It's really a mess. |
When the Nets move to Brooklyn and get Lebron you will have one of the hottest teams in awhile ! And it could be worse, you could be a Twolves fan wow do they SUCK !!
|
The TWolves beat the Nets on opening night by two points, and for the first month of the season that was the only win recorded by both of those teams combined!!
But LeBron isn't coming to the Nets, unless the Russian wants to give him a couple of hundred million. |
Last night on ESPN I thought I saw that Iverson is returning to Philly?I guess the Nets missed that chance................

1-18, on their way to a stellar 12-70 season.

The 1972-73 Sixers were 9-73, I believe.

The Nets actually have a real good player (Devin Harris) and a good player (Brooke Lopez), so they have better talent than the old 76ers team, who was Fred (Mad Dog) Carter, and not much else.
Plus there are more teams in the NBA than 1972, so they should be able to rebound a little, beat an occasional bad team and get to double digits in wins.... barely. |
worst team, lousy state.
the turnpike makes me ill.

Is it just me, or is pro basketball the least competitive sport? My personal gauge is how many teams end up between .600 and .400. So far in the 2009-10 season, there are 9 teams above that band, and 8 below it--that's more than half of the 30 teams altogether. The 2008-09 season ended just the same: 9 above and 8 below. Look at the 2009 baseball season: one team above, and three below. Now that's competitive.
