I just completed this 20" x 20" framed piece that features larger-format pinbacks featuring no-hit pitchers that I have been collecting for a number of years.
The top two rows are all standard 3" pinbacks of no-hit pitchers.

The bottom three rows feature pitchers that make up my own personal no-hit HOF.
Ryan and his 7 no-hit games. Pinbacks featuring him on all 3 teams in which he pitched a no-hitter (4 while playing for the Angels, 1 while on the Astros and 2 while winding down his career on the Texas Rangers).
The ARA 7 no-hitter button in the middle is particularly tough for a pinback produced in 1991.
The black and white Koufax stadium pinback from the early 1960's is a real tough one as well.

The bottom two rows have a few fantasy pinbacks that I had someone create for me, but only because no larger scale pinbacks for these players were ever produced.
Cy Young had 3 career no-hitters, Bob Feller (the 1940's stadium pinback is challenging and is a recent pickup) and Justin Verlander (Possibly this year's Cy Young winner).
Verlander pinbacks feature Justin in his DET Tigers uniform (2 no-hitters) and Astros uniform (1 no-hitter so far ;)).

The bottom row features all of the remaining pitchers (other than Nolan Ryan-1973 on the Angels) that have pulled off the challenging task of pitching 2 no-hitters in a single season.
Johnny Vander Meer (ML record back-to-back no-hitters in 1938), Allie Reynolds (1951), Virgil Trucks (1952), Roy Halladay (2010) and finally Mad Max Scherzer (2015).

Seems like a neat (and fun) project to have worked on!

But…..I’m kind of a “pin guy”…..do you think the Verlanders and Scherzer might be homemade? At least for the Giants, no one has made player pins since the 90’s (other than bootlegs).

Fantasy larger format pins in my display are:

Cy Young, Vandy, Allie Reynolds, Virgil Trucks, Roy Halladay, Verlander and Scherzer.
No larger format 3" pinbacks exist for these guys...

makeup man and some actor named Babe Ruth on the set of the Movie "Babe Comes Home", in 1927. Filmed at Wrigley Field in L. A., here we have a nice shot of the Babe getting touched up for his next scene as well as the accompanying negative. Always on the lookout for odder Ruth items and these pieces fit my collection perfectly.

This appears to be a contest run by the Milwaukee Journal where the reader had to identify the ballplayer by his eyes. What is odd is it appears this individual decided to go above and beyond and added a bio to each of his ids. There are 12 total photos this entrant identified. Based on Mathewson's bio it appears to be from 1922 as it refers to the benefit game played on his behalf.

Picked it up because it came in a lot with some old Milwaukee Brewer items.

Thrilled to add another rookie-year hockey auto to my collection: an emergency US visa application (in lieu of passport) for a 21 year-old Maurice 'The Rocket' Richard. A week after this was signed he broke his wrist and ended up playing only 16 games in the 1942-43 season.

During WWII there was a big question about whether to continue Major League Baseball or to put it on hold. On one hand, resources were incredibly scarce. On the other hand, it provided a sense of comfort and a chance to get aware from the unbearably serious nature of what was going on. President Roosevelt famously sent the "Green Light Letter" to baseball commissioner Landis, telling them to continue playing.

Most of my WWII baseball collection is related to games by players who were drafted and playing for Military Bases, in Europe or in the Pacific Theatre (mostly Hawaii). This original newspaper drawing by cartoonist Bill Crawford (wiki link below) expresses public support for continued play.

I suppose Sports Cartoonists have gone by the wayside with the demise of newspapers and magazines.

Thanks Jeff (and David)....this piece has a special meaning for me: The prior year (1941) my great uncle, also a 'Maurice', briefly centred a line with Richard / Blake in the Quebec Senior Hockey League for a couple of games. This was the farm team for the Canadiens for several years.

Ultimately he ended up heading south and playing professionally in the USHL (where he knocked a 17 y/o Gordie Howe out of a game with a stick to the head!) and later the PCHL.

My contribution to this months puckup thread is also pre war Hockey. A 1926 Stanley cup Finals program. 1926 was the last year a non NHL team contended for the cup. The Victoria Cougers faced off against the Montreal Maroons.

I just it in the mail and it is roughly 2 feet tall. Way larger than I had imagined. Wow...!

Just picked this up for a friend. I collect SF Giants...my buddy collects Giants and Niners. I'd like to get your thoughts...

The seller listed this as "salesman's sample." Strangely enough, another popped up on ebay a few days later. That seller is calling his a "showroom sample." Well, I watch enough Antiques Roadshow to know about salesman's samples. Thing is, those samples tend to be furniture or machinery. Would a bread company really put out a "sample"? Wouldn't they just wrap their bread in whatever and send it out to stores? Would General Mills test the waters on commemorative Wheaties boxes or would they just send them out?

I will say, the paper seems vintage. It does not seem like someone printed it out recently. The paper feels like it is wrapped around a block of foam. What do you guys think?

Definitely good, maybe there was a find. Griffith Stadium in D.C. was in the middle of a bread factory district, and everybody that ever went there remembers the heavenly smell of bread baking in the neighborhood, including the ballpark. I also remember eating miniature loaves of bread there, similar to yours. I think they were given away as promotions, and no bread has ever tasted as good in my life. Nothing else, just plain old white bread direct from the factory. Perhaps yours is the Seals Stadium version of that.

Rocky Colavito Hartland Statue
 

Rocky Colavito was the last player I needed to complete my 1958-62 Hartland Statue set.

I picked up a Willie Mays Hartland when I was 15 years old and it took me another 37 years before I got another. After a long journey, the set is complete.

Complete is a relative term though. I'll probably upgrade a couple of them and I'm still chasing the rest of the tags and boxes that I'm missing.

Of course, how do you think they got so big? Super cool item.

Great accomplishment! Looks like you were super selective about condition as well. Great looking white set. I could never seem to find a Banks that hadn’t yellowed or at least turned beige-ish (if that’s a word).

Thanks Hank and Mark. I think I picked out with Banks. I've heard from others that it's tough. For me, the Colavito was tricky. Finding one that isn't separating along the "seam" and at a reasonable price was tough.

I saw a couple price stickers on the boxes but couldn’t make the price. Can you tell us the original prices?

Interesting footnote: I picked up a large lot of Hartland Boxes a little while back and sold off the extra/dupes that I didn't need. One of those was a Musial box and it had the original price sticker from the Famous-Barr department store (a local St Louis Department store that's now defunct). It sold it to a collector in St Louis who's a Cards fan and specifically noticed the price sticker.

That box took a long route to eventually make it back home to St Louis.

Whenever I have seen loaves like that, they've been vintage new old stock bags/labels and someone inserted a block of foam inside to make it aesthetically pleasing like a loaf of bread.

1951 Bob Feller BBWAA Program
 

1951 BBWAA program honoring Bob Feller as the Cleveland Chapter’s Man of the Year. Cover drawing by Lou Darvas. This was an annual occurrence in Cleveland from at least the mid 1940s well into the 1970s and perhaps longer. The programs feature the chapter’s annual pick for man of the year and are highly collectible (by me). Several other years and honorees on eBay right now.

This Bob Feller program has been on my want list for over a decade. Very happy to finally find one!

Picked up a few bats including 2 side written Spalding bats. A 1950s post career Babe Ruth bat and a Andy Harrington Detroit Tigers professional model bat.

Have they all been Sunbeam/49’ers or have you seen others?
