Special shoutout for LOTG auctions

I wanted to share this with the board

My dad purchased a few T206 cards at auction from Love of the Game auctions recently. Amongst the cards was a signed Doyle and a ghost Bender. There were questions raised about the authenticity of both

Without prodding LOTG offered to send the cards into PSA and SGC respectively for their review and assessment.

PSA deemed the signature to be a fake. LOTG immediately cancelled the bid and refunded the money.

SGC reviewed and reholdered the Ghost as a legitimate item.

You couldn’t ask for a more professional handling of this situation.

Thanks to Al and his team!

Just out of curiosity, why was one card sent to SGC and the other to PSA? Why not send them both to the same company?

LOTG sold the Doyle as authenticated by PSA and the Bender was sold as authenticated by SGC. The auction house can't guarantee that a different authenticator will have the same opinion. All they can ask is the same authenticator to see if they will stand by their previous determination. Let me ask it this way, what would happen if the different authenticator has a different opinion of the item? Obviously one of them is correct and one is wrong, but who do you believe? The AH sold the item based on the original authentication with no other guarantees. The auction house makes no claim that someone else will have the same point of view.
