I'm right there with you. I LOVE seeing the Texas Tommys. I wish I had one to contribute but sadly do not. Hopefully Leon will be along soon with some of his gems, love seeing those every time he posts them. RE the WaJo Texas Tommy, as a Big Train collector, may I just say WOW!!

Those cards seem so grossly undergraded. How can that Gregg be a 1?

Gary that Matty B.G. is off the charts!

Phil, if you see this, what is the story behind the Yahtzee box?

The checklist on the verso of the 1912 Boston Garters shows Walter Johnson as being part of the set. Yet, I have never seen an image of the card. Some years ago when I raised this issue someone responded that he had seen the card and can confirm it exists, yet did not produce an image.

Has anyone else seen/heard of the card and if so, can he/she provide an image?

I have never seen a Walter Johnson either.

Tris Speaker is listed on the checklist too. Has anyone ever seen one?

Leland's had one in an auction about 20 years ago, and I saw it in person at their offices. I think it went for around 5K.

Thanks for the response Hank.

Are you sure it was not the 1913 Garter Johnson? That card is known and has come up from time to time. When I go onto the Lelands website and do a search of their past auctions, the 1912 Garter Johnson does not appear.

Hank - You might be thinking about the ten 1914 Boston Garters that Leland's sold back in 1994. They came from Dennis Goldstein's collection.

Here is a page from the catalog with Johnson in middle.

Not sure why images that I take with my iPhone come out oriented like this.

Hankphenom 09-08-2021 12:14 PM

My mistake, guys, it was the 1914 version as pictured. I didn't know there was another BG variation, and if there was a WaJo as checklisted, I've never seen or known about one.

Agree, especially on the Doyle....those are the kind of type cards I love.

I've always thought this to be a fun card as it is the only card I know of that has a full-fledged assault happening in the background. :D

Leon's present and past personal collections have long been available for all Net54 members to enjoy viewing. You can get to them via the "Vintage Links" at the top of the page, or to just use this link: https://www.luckeycards.com/personal.html Just click on any line item in this listing, and you will see pics of the specific cards.

I have long-collected pre-War type cards, and I have long-used Leon's fantastic collections as a visual catalog, especially when I wasn't sure what a specific type card I didn't have actually looked like. Leon, I have truly appreciated this wonderful reference material that you have made available to all of us.

Wow. I see how you can use that as a visual catalog.

That is a very extensive and diverse collection

Kevin - I have only seen Johnson & Speaker examples from the 1914 set.

Garters and Tommys

I had the pleasure of owning 8 Garters but sadly no Tommys and would like another N167 Old Judge. I had 2 1912 Garters 5 of the 1914 color and 1 sepia toned, seems like it never happened. .Made some beautiful historic trades for some of my rare CObbs...man was it fun that led up to the final transactions !

This board has has some of the most significant deals in the hobby. Thank you Leon for the great fun it was.
