REA will be set up at booth 1009 all weekend with hundreds of highlights from our Spring Auction opening next week. If you're interested in seeing anything in particular, feel free to PM or e-mail and we'll be sure to bring it if we have it in the auction. We'll also be accepting consignments for our summer auction and offering generous cash advances all weekend to early consignors.

Brian, if I get there, it will be Friday and it will literally be for the purpose of seeing what REA (and ML, LOTG and MH) has - please bring all things Wagner, cobb, t206 rare backs. Plus anything rare. I will not be at Chantilly this spring (Disney instead) Thanks!

Philly Show

It will be like the "good ole days" again with Danny McKee and I set up. Look for us at Booth # 412.

We will be "talking BB" and/or wheeling-n-dealing Sportscards this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

I will have for sale (or trade) cards from 1887 thru to the 1970's. With about 100 - T206 cards (Stars, SoL's and Commons).
Including some tough backs (red HINDU, AMERICAN BEAUTY 460, AMERICAN BEAUTY 350, EPDG, PIEDMONT 460/42, etc.).

Danny will have his usual eclectic assortment of awesome "oldies, but goodies".

Looking forward to seeing some of you, and have a great weekend at this show.

Wish I were there with you guys, Ted. It sounds like a lot of fun again. I am fairly sure I will be doing the Philly Show again in the future. I had a blast with Danny when I set up there last time. Joe (hi Joe) runs a great show. I appreciate his support on the board too. Good luck!!

Any Friday Night reports?

judsonhamlin 03-02-2019 07:36 AM

I was there by 3:30 yesterday. Good crowds and almost all the dealers were 100% set up many then, which hasn't always been the case. Lots of wow at the auction house tables -REA especially- and decent prices around. Picked up some E96's and 35 Goudeys but there were 100's of T206s for the asking all over - both raw and graded. Got to say hello to Ted Z and Kevin Savage, which is always nice. On the modern end, lots of complaints about 2019 Heritage as far as case hit distribution and Topps' lack of interest in responding.

Scott L. 03-02-2019 12:31 PM

I was there Friday night and thought the crowd was solid as well. There are a bunch of Eagles players there today on the autograph side so I’m sure the crowd will be good. We had some snow Thursday night into Friday but weather is clear today which is good. I did hear one dealer lament to another that he “hadn’t sold a $100 of stuff yet.” I also saw a 3k+ deal consummated on some 48 Leaf baseball. I would echo Judson’s sentiment both on the amount of T206’s raw and graded (most of which had the spike in prices fully baked in lol) and the upcoming REA auction material. I also saw a fair amount of teenagers and 20 somethings who I suspect are mostly interested in modern but still good for the hobby overall. Ted and Dan seemed like they had a half dozen Red Hindu’s between them. I picked up 2 of the last 25 or so cards I needed for my 67 master set in 7 or better at what I thought were fair prices. Both guys came down a bit off the sticker when asked.

I was there Friday and was very impressed with the crowd on a snowy Friday. Lots of old vintage (pre 1930), including many t205, t206, m101, e121, etc. And there was a good amount of pretty rare stuff - Dan always has rare stuff, Ted had some great rare t206 backs, William Chappell always has a large and ecclectic mix, Bill always has a ton of real nice, mid-grade t206s, etc etc. For me it’s great bc I get to see a lot of people, dealers and show goers, many of the latter bring cards as well). Really a great show for people who like the old cards.

REA has an amazing auction coming up - a few major pieces, but mostly just a ton of variety of real desirable stuff - true cardboard buffet. Mile High has a solid auction coming out soon too. Heritage is there too (and they always have awesome stuff). I Was disappointed LOTG was not there (I always want to see what they have).

I thought it was a great show and well worth the drive if within 2-3 hours.

There today

Seemed to be a lot of people there. The few dealers I spoke with said sales were a bit slow.

Highlight of the show for me was meeting Ted and Dan (Hi guys!).

Didn't find much on my want list, but then I rarely do.....

Met a another fellow net54er - I already forgot his name - but remember he was into Christy Mathewson!

That was me Howard! :D I'm terrible with names too. I remembered you as the Clemente fan! It was nice talking to you Ted and Dan.
Also met Scott(Aquarian) and a couple other Net54ers.

Talked with Derek Grady at Heritage for a while... good guy!

Met Dave Schrader and his wife from Baggers Auction(he even remembered my wife's name from PayPal!)

Talked with Brian Drent from Mile High. He gave me a cool background story about a Cobb photo I bought from him a few years ago. His upcoming auction has some great stuff including a PSA 8 Coupon Matty.

The REA auction preview had some amazing eye candy too.

I picked up a few T205's for my Pied Factory 42 set I'm working on and a few other things. Decent crowd and a nice amount of vintage material there. Glad I drove the couple hours to get there.

Aquarian Sports Cards 03-02-2019 06:51 PM

As a dealer I don't get to walk around much, but there is a fantastic amount of T206. Also a couple of other really good deals on some dealers tables that I won't reveal just in case I can afford them tomorrow!

BearBailey 03-03-2019 08:27 PM

Any final reports on the show? Hopefully next time, weekend was too busy this time around.

Aquarian Sports Cards 03-04-2019 09:24 AM

I can't offer the consumer perspective, but as a dealer when the doors opened on Friday there was a buzz and a rush I haven't experienced in a long time. I was busy the entire day Friday. Not always making sales, but talking with potential consignors, and just shooting the breeze with friends old and new. I also spent a lot of time trying to sell a card for a neighboring dealer just because I liked it so much, which I guess is weird lol.

Don't know if it was just because we were 12 miles down the road for 2 iterations of the Philly Show or what, but it just felt like the customers were more excited than they've been in a long time. Maybe Bryce Harper Euphoria?

Great show

I was there the whole weekend and it was pretty good. I couldn't let the weekend go by without buying something from both Ted (thanks for the 1948 Bowmans) and Dan (finally pulled the trigger on that T206 Jackson with the AB back). As others have mentioned, there was a nice selection of T206's. As a T206 Baltimore back collector, I was happy to score a Phil Poland Cycle back. Definitely worth the trip.

Yastrzemski Sports 03-04-2019 01:57 PM

I go to Philly, White Plains, Chantilly, Boston shows to buy. I can’t remember seeing a show that busy in a long time. Tons of people on Friday - which is usually a “throw away” day. Seemed like a very strong crowd.

Philly Show Rocked

I was there all three days and it was one of the busiest and most fun shows I've attended in a long time. Kudos to Mile High, Hunt, and REA for eye-popping cards and memorabilia.

There were lots of families and young collectors. Everyone seemed very happy.

Loved the highway billboard approaching Valley Forge. Featured Bryce Harper: "WE GOT HIM!"

basesareempty 03-06-2019 09:09 AM

I was there all day Saturday buying cards to finish up about a dozen sets I’m working on. Talked to a few dealer friends I haven’t seen in a while as well as getting to see some of the auction eye candy. The REA preview was incredible and getting to see a 1961 Topps Dice Game Brooks Robinson in person was especially nice.

tedzan 03-08-2019 07:26 AM

Philly Show

"Me and Bobby McGee"..oops, I meant Danny McKee. We had a great Show this past weekend.
Dan sold some of his exotic stuff; and, I sold (and traded) a bunch of T206's, some 1949 LEAF
Single-Prints, and some 1952 Hi #'s (including Bill Dickey).

Plus, Dan and I purchased some great "walk-ins".

Kudo's to Joe for a great Philly Show.
