Sootysmtg eBay seller
Sootysmtg on eBay has just listed a lot of T206 Ty Cobbs. The seller is from UK. I went to seller page. They have numerous signed Ruth and Cobb ssbb. Lot of other high dollar stuff. The seller has a lot of feedback with 100% rating. Anyone dealt with this seller. Thoughts?

This has been happening to random accounts for the past 6 months and eBay doesn't seem to be able to stop it. |
Thank you both.

I just reported some 50s and 60s Topps sets that this seller has listed. The description "WE ACCEPT FAST SALE FOR THIS ITEM AT THE PRICE OF: 4472 US$" doesn't instill a lot of confidence, not to mention the "special" purchase instructions.

I noticed
in my emailed "saved searches" yesterday quite a few high end cards with $1 starting bids - when I clicked on the links they had been removed. This morning I saw the listings by the same seller listed by the OP and figured it was a hacked account or otherwise "no good".
|
I reported 10 or 12 of the listings a little while ago. The fraudulent listings have now been removed by eBay

I’ve been seeing those too; when I report them, they get taken down but pop up the next day under a different seller.
|
eBay just shut the hacker down, but they keep coming back
|
It will be like this until it is harder to make an eBay account than a gmail account.
|
Be careful. The same operation just put up a slew of auctions in the last few hours. If you check the second picture on each listing has instructions to buy direct from their sketchy website.

It's amazing how quickly they hack another account, after they are taken down.

One of the pics had a "Probstein123" on it. I'm no Hardy Boy but...

The hacker just hacked two more accounts. I track them by the Ryne Sandberg glove, because they use the same stuff each time. Both are still currently active on ebay. I'm amazed how quickly they can hack accounts. Easy passwords to break? Better technology that makes it much easier now? Crazy!

I just noticed the Fogmodels hacked account listings. There are about 20 T206 Cobbs, all with different picture backgrounds, including some with the original seller's details (Post it note with name and date). It's sad that there are people out there who fall for this type of scam...
|
Yup, he's back as Fogmodels. New T206 listings on Ebay.
Can someone please remind me of how to Report someone on Ebay? What are the steps? |
I'm no computer expert by any stretch of the imagination but one would think a company/business as large as eBay is would have something a little more stout to defend against things like this.
I know most major banks have such things in place so why not eBay? Is it the money/the cost of running/acquiring such things or is there actually no way to defend attacks like this at times? |

Not just T206s. '34 Goudey Gehrigs and a complete Diamond Stars set are also frequent listings. Out of curiosity, prior to realizing that it was a scam, I did reach out to them at one point to see if they were willing to negotiate on price, but they held firm. Strange response for a scammer.

I guess the original seller in this thread got their account squared away. Must be kind of messed up dealing with it...unless ebay can just wave a wand (which they probably can)

He's back up again, as of tonight. Same offering of Cobbs. Just going to report him again.
