Judge's Total Bases

Judge had a great season that is for sure, but the greatest ? I think not. But I heard some TV announcers stating the best season ever. I don't think so. Aaron Judge ended the season with 391 Total Bases. That is tied for 45th best of all-time. He is the AL Home Run King at 62.

Must have been Yankee announcers. Their players fell from heaven.

I don’t think it’s the best season ever but for WAR if you exclude pitchers and Barry Bonds there aren’t too many guys since WW2 who are higher than Judge’s 10.7. Mantle twice. Musial. Willie Mays. Joe Morgan. Cal Ripken Jr. And of course Yaz’s 12.5 during his brilliant ‘67 campaign.

Total bases

Not that it would have been the greatest but, nobody has had 400 total bases since 2001. That for sure is a major milestone these days. Most of the 2001 players were steroid guys(Bonds, Sosa, Luis Gonzales and Todd Helton). Last AL guy was Jim Rice in 1978! Would have made it a great but not all time great year.

An outstanding season, no question about that.

I think it is the greatest season by a Yankee since Mantle in 1956. I would take some seasons by Ted Williams over this, and certainly some by Hornsby over this. Great season, but in my mind far from the best ever.

Mantle in 57 had an on base percentage over 50 percent. I think his WAR was the same as 56. Ted's was even higher, almost 53 percent, and he hit .388 too.

you are right those were great season.

Judges was not the Greatest but it was special and memorable. Especially to me
1. Breaking the AL record
2. 23 Homers more than 2nd place Trout
3. 30 more Runs scored than 2nd place Altuve

now the real question is how close will the MVP voting be between Judge and Ohtani

Haha, I like that.

400 TBs in a season is "the" mark. It's only been done about 30x. Oddly enough it was accomplished 7x from 1997-2001, gee I wonder why that was (ok, 3x was by two Rockies).

9 shy of the magic number. It was a great season for Judge and in a walk/contract year no less.
