Hofstra Show - August 21-22

Anyone setting up shop? Anyone planning on going? I'll be there on Sunday at some point.

Hi

As of now I am going. Not setting up but going. and planning on most likely going on Sunday also but TBD.
Like You I am on Long island

Seven 08-05-2021 12:05 PM

I was thinking about going because it's not too far from me. What's the show normally like? Any dealers I should be on the lookout for?

Jewish-collector 08-05-2021 12:19 PM

Is this the same show that had been in White Plains ?

hcv123 08-05-2021 02:22 PM

I'll be set up there

This is the first big New York show since Covid! I also am from Long Island. I will have lots of great vintage cards 1900-1980. Any special requests - let me know. I'll also be looking to buy higher end vintage (think Ruth, Cobb, Mantle, Gehrig, etc.) Not sure of my table # - but look for my sign - "A Few of My Favorite Things".

This is not the same show as White Plains, although there is a large cross-section of the same dealers at both shows.

Yes

timzcardz 08-06-2021 07:29 AM

Living on Long Island, this is definitely the best on LI.

it's been a long dry spell and I was planning on going, but with COVID numbers on the rise again, not sure now.

I'll probably decide when I get up that Saturday morning.

charlietheexterminator 08-07-2021 04:47 AM

Hofstra was once a great show to go to, when it was hosted in the larger facility. In recent years the show took place in the basement auditorium, less dealers. It’s mostly the same faces from White Plains. You still get some solid dealers and most of the auction houses. Still a fun place to go to and deals to be had. I’ll be walking around on Sunday and wearing my new Drum Daddy hat I got for Xmas.

Just curious do the dealers at the shows accept credit cards? or do you have to go with cash in pockets for everything?

Some/many do, just based on observation.

Not sure how many though because I always just go with cash.

Thanks for info. I am just not comfortable carrying to much cash and if there is a vintage higher end card I might want I do not want to lose out on it.

Vintageclout 08-08-2021 07:59 AM

Hofstra

FYI, for this particular East Coast National, this is the same show as White Plains. Due to COVID, the White Plains convention center is still not available for public venues, so the promoters (JPRS) had to move the East Coast National to Hofstra. I would highly expect a majority of the dealers typically seen at the White Plains East Coast National to be set up at Hofstra, plus some new additions.

BobbyVCP 08-08-2021 05:07 PM

I will be setting up at that show and come by if you need any help with anything VCP related.

sportscardpete 08-08-2021 06:24 PM

Will be there either Saturday or Sunday, looking forward to meeting some folks!

Kevin 08-19-2021 08:05 PM

Looks like I'll be there Saturday afternoon. Probably after 2pm. Looking forward to it. Shot my buddy John Goodman a text...he'll be there...

pcelli 08-20-2021 04:41 PM

Best show on LI..Dealers may be restocked with cards from the national..Worth going to..

hcv123 08-20-2021 06:28 PM

Started set up today

I'll be against the bleachers at table #22 (in the door to the left) - look for my tall "A Few of My Favorite Things" banner. Bringing lots of great vintage cards - mostly baseball (including a new private consignment of a 1955 complete set graded 6-7!) - little bit of football, basketball (INCREDIBLE 1961 Fleer set break) and hockey. Also looking to buy and trade for similar - especially looking for 1952 Topps and other 1950's Mantle's, Ruth playing years cards and Cobb T cards (and select others).

If you are a Net 54er - be sure to stop by and say a no-obligation "hello"!

Howard

I was going to go Sunday but the hurricane looks to put a damper on that.

I was supposed to set up and went there this morning...very small show maybe 40 vendors at most. It is in the Hofstra Basketball facility. I was offered a free space and of course when I went to check in there was no memory of it at all. They set up a table in the farthest back corner and I went to move my car. I came back and there was this guy eating at my table. He looked at me and asked is this yours, "Yes". I did a walk around and did not see anything older than 1955 Topps cards. I got back and the guy is still sitting there eating. I just took my things went back to my car and headed back on my 5 hour drive home.

hcv123 08-21-2021 06:49 PM

Sorry to hear about your experience Bobby

That isn't right.

That said - I know you and I said a quick hello and if the oldest card you saw at the show was from 1955, then I can say you didn't even look at the cards at my table as I had plenty of great pre war cards. That said in walking the show I saw plenty of others. Also estimate about 100+ vendors, 200+ tables.

You were understandably miffed, but no need to bash the show with false statements.

Great to meet Kevin from Net 54. The show floor was pretty busy from open to close. I had an okay show (not great). The few dealers I spoke to seemed happy with their sales.

I hope they reschedule for Late Oct/ November maybe. Was looking forward to going. I'm guessing lots more people would have went today and/or tomorrow. However people were getting ready for the storm and having to contend with giant gasoline lines and getting generators/ yards ready etc...

I'm itching for a show as it's been a long time. Hoping for the best tomorrow.

Great meeting you as well, Howard! I enjoyed looking at your higher end cards too. Great stuff. I’m now going to check the link you have posted. And thanks so much for looking out for me. Thanks a million, brother.

Went today with my kids. Was quite busy!

Seeing the Memory Lane/ Vintageclout's incredible Ruth and Gehrig items was worth the price of admission!

Clean sweep was there with some vintage stuff.

As a whole, the show had a pretty good amount of 50's-70's stuff but a bit lacking elsewhere in the pre war selection. I got a couple cards for the collection including a nice for grade Nolan Ryan RC SGC 3 and a SGC 6 Mantle Topps 1960

Got some Howard Johnson signatures with the kids, seemed like a very nice guy!

mrreality68 10-16-2021 08:34 PM

Erick

Thanks for the recap

Just curious what kind of Ruth and Gehrig cards did memory lane have?

Thanks

Wow sensory overload.

Those are amazing selection of cards for their upcoming auction.

Just my luck so much I like and so much I could use for my collection.

Rhotchkiss 10-16-2021 09:10 PM

Joe has a great collection. Those pics are straight up cardboard porn.

Incredible eye candy for sure!

Erick - I think you bought that Mantle from me!

and didn't introduce yourself as a Net 54 guy!? Enjoy the card. The cards pictured are Joe's - NOT for the auction - as noted - off the charts incredible - In addition to the fact that it is signed, the Gehrig Rookie looked to be in incredible shape!! Just insane.

Gotcha
THanks for clarifying
Joe's collection like you said is off the Charts.
Just wondering is he adopting? I am an orphan?

Yes! After I left your table I looked at your business card and realized I knew your name. Couldn't think if it was from ebay or from the card forum! Nice meeting you, love the Mantle!
