Hello just wanted some opinions on what this may be worth? Babe Ruth Cut handwriting. Thanks

Not so much I hope!

Are you serious ?

Snapolit1 04-27-2020 10:35 AM

I don't see any handwriting. Isn't that a price sticker?

perezfan 04-27-2020 01:06 PM

My guess is that it was (supposedly) taken from Ruth's check register or a ledger of some sort. I think all of these "manufactured" collectibles are silly and contrived, so have no comment/opinion on the perceived value. I will say that PT Barnum would be proud...

I guess it's simply worth whatever someone is willing to pay.

I cannot imagine spending anything significant on that.

They seem to be selling quickly on ebay, most are $300 obo.

The fact that they cut up Ruth's personal checkbook to make these is somewhat appauling (although not surprising) to me.

Who would want that, to the tune of $900?

Just because it's in their dumb plastic holder? And why cut off that particular meaningless portion of the check?

I suppose that a Honus Wagner one-page letter could be cut up into 100 pieces, with each piece put into an ugly plastic holder, and sold for $900 a pop. So a $1,600 Letter is actually worth $90,000.00 in "Slab-land"?

Just curious how a piece like that could be authenticated unless it was cut up in front of the person authenticating.

The same thing has been done for Ty Cobb too. Although not as expensive. If the cut had baseball content, it might be nifty at a low , low price. But I saw one that was just a cut of the word "of". ;-(

I wonder if longer words command a premium...

From what I've seen, they do. The whole system of cutting up valuable treasures of Baseball's history is just kinda degrading to the rich past of the game. Hopefully I'm wrong, and the bright side is someone who could never get their hands on one of Ruth's personal effects/equipment etc., can now do so. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Cobb

I bought some of the Cobb check stubs (not the checks) a few years ago, the best one is for his purchase of Vermouth. Value, who knows but I enjoy them.

Ha ha ha.

Every letter adds a zero to the price. :D

I think those HOf postcatds are like what, 1 dollar each or something at the gift shop? Maybe knock half of that off for the piece of tape they stuck on it.

Fairly sure the wagner was from a check where Card Company chopped the signature for "Cut" product and now trying to monetize the leftovers.
