Who is Don the Con and What are NTFs?

I believe it’s a post attacking Trump for releasing some non-fungible tokens of digital trading cards.

If I didn't believe all NFTs we're a con, I might. There is a historical significance IMO

Seems very early 2022. Might still sell out but seems dated as of now.

Politics aside.

I am not buying NFT’s from any politician and the NFT’s in general has been on the decline in popularity and value over last many months.

Plus I prefer to collect solid items cards, memorabilia, coins etc.

I read somewhere some people were selling it on Amazon he secondary market(wherever they is) and getting less than the starting price

Kind of funny thing Jeff, saw a story on Yahoo talking about how supposedly all the Trump NFT's had already sold out. Speculation was that a significant percentage of them were purchased by speculators hoping to turn around and flip them for a profit once they had sold out. In the comments section someone then opined that these NFT's seemed to be like baseball cards that came out and were gobbled up by flippers/speculators, then were subsequently way overproduced by those creating them so that they ultimately lost all value as no one then really wanted them after all. Kind of interesting (and humorous to me) how those not into our hobby can view and relate to card collecting and how it may relate to such things in their view. Collectors like many of us are most definitely an extreme minority of the overall population. LOL

Yes my reading and limited understanding is that they sold $4.5 million worth (which sold) which Trump got. Then these speculators were reselling on the secondary market thinking since they were limited and sold out that the demand would be great to drive up the prices and they would score a profit. But many were selling for less then the initial prices and losing money

I am not sure if they can be sold on Amazon or how they are sold and transacted

I was certainly surprised at how quick they sold out.

I'm not shocked they sold out; $4,500 for a dinner with a former President is, I think, not bad (though my personal opinion is I don't understand why anyone would pay to attend dinner with a celebrity or politician at all). How much was it to attend a fundraising dinner where you would get to interact with Clinton or Bush or Obama? That the NFT's were unlikely to be completely worthless and so people could resell and cut that $4,500 down (again, I will never understand why any NFT has any value) by whatever they resold for would, I'd think, be enough to sell them all. I am quite surprised some people missed the initial day and went 'Yeah, I'll pay $231+ to get one now without being getting the contests and guaranteed prizes' does surprise me. The secondary market buyers are truly just paying hundreds of dollars for photoshop memes of a President. What a time it is.

I guess it all depends on who bought them. One of the rites of passage, if you will, for prospective Presidential candidates is to write a book. Such books always manage to land on the NY Times bestseller list, in no small part because of bulk purchases by campaigns, PACs, and other political organs. It wouldn't surprise me if there were some such machinations going on to give his somewhat listless 2024 campaign a few headlines.

Looks like many who knew the real story about Trump and not the fake MSM news B.S. are doing pretty well.

Great point. That always struck me as a type of money laundering scheme, where the political candidates get to cash out money from their campaigns to put into their own pockets. Publishers give advances and such to the authors, knowing they'll make money off such bulk purchases. It is basically a legal way around campaign contribution laws. Have also always felt there was potentially a bit of a bribery element in such book deals as well.

It collapsed in the sense that the million dollar monkey pictures aren’t so high anymore, but there are plenty of people still paying hundreds of dollars for these things. The most massive part of the hype train is gone but it hasn’t wiped out completely.

As to why that is, I cannot help :). None of this makes anymore sense to me than draining 401K’s to yolo on baseball cards.

Or if the website has right click disabled.... ALT Print screen, then paste into pretty much anything.

LOL, I agree on most things being beyond silly to pay for a digital picture of. Also the amount of money paid for the pictures are outrageous.

On a totally I get it and would pay decent money for a picture side. I like nice watches and some extremely high end watches never get to even be seen by us normal people. I know someone who has an insane watch collection was thinking about doing NTFs of the best of the best. Not sure if it ever happened though.
