Lou Brissie has passed away.

What an incredible man. The world is a sadder place with his passing.

Very sad to hear that Lou passed away Tuesday....while never having met him in person, I had the opportunity to speak with him multiple times while coordinating a book signing we planned together at a book store that I managed. He was the subject of the book "The Corporal was a Pitcher" by Ira Berkow.

Lou himself reached out to me and expressed interest in coming to the store I managed and signing Ira's book. Even though I was on vacation the day he signed and missed meeting him in person, Lou still took the time to sign a copy of Ira's book for me and sent me a thank you note for the privilege of letting him come and sign(actually it was much more of a privilege for both my staff and the customers to meet him personally). While I never did get to meet Lou in person, my dealings with him solidified my feelings about his strong character.

A great comeback story from an obviously great man. Thanks for inspiring us through the way you lived your life Lou Brissie!

The NY Times ran the obit a couple of days ago, and they used a photograph of Lou holding his 1952 Topps card (a semi-high, if memory serves).

His story was truly amazing, given the severity of his war injury.

Always sad to hear of one of the old guard passing away. RIP Mr. Brissie,

I wrote Lou last year after reading his book. The injuries he received in Italy were horrific which made the comeback that much more amazing.

It also spoke very well of Connie Mack and the effort he put out to make sure all the WWII vets got a chance when they returned.

Lous also sent some nice signed cards with his letter, a really nice guy and a hero.

I was not aware of him, but he sounded like a really great (and interesting) man.

We're losing our connection to the past a little more every day, and I for one am greatly saddened. :(

Great story. On the bright side, he got to meet his 14 great grandchildren. We should all be so lucky....
