sbc grading company?

Posted By: leon
If it's the same one I am thinking of they were the predecessor to SGC. You just have to buy the card and not the slab. The grading back then tended to be a little more slack than todays stringent standards. regards

Posted By: Brian Goldner
SBC was a predecessor to SGC.
Chicago based, if my memory serves me correctly.

Seems like that was around 1989-1990.
I remember them pretty well, as i was an SBC Dealer at that time, and did some grading for them as well.

sbc grading company?

Posted By: MikeU
Joe Merkle created and ran SBC around 1988-1990-ish. The company then ceased. Around 1997, the NGC (Coin Guys) owners thought it would be a good idea to extend to card grading. They then hired Joe Merkle (1998) as an employee based on his past experience with SBC. Some of Joe's better ideas from SBC were used for the SGC brand. Joe lasted just over 1 year at SGC.

SBC and SGC have always been totally different entitites, but due to Merkle, similarities are evident.
