Multi-Color Stitched Baseball Question

Posted By: Dan Bretta
When did using multi-color stitches first come into use? I'm guessing this ball would be from around the first usage of it?? The stitches are much smaller than on a modern baseball.

Multi-Color Stitched Baseball Question

Posted By: Joe K.
The AL(Reach)started using Red and Blue stitching in 1901. The NL (Spalding) adopted Red and Black stitching in 1911. Both stopped in 1934. Other manufacturers also made offical league balls of various stitch color as well. Green and Red was also common (used by D&M I believe). For non OAL or ONL or other offical league balls I don't know when multi-color stitch first came into use. 1901 - 1934 is commonly used as the dating for multi-color stitching, but I don't think that necessarily applies to non-official league balls. I have balls from c. 1920 (no jokes please) that have similar size stitches as the one pictured.
