1938 Goudey DiMaggio (SGC 86) on eBay -- proceed with extreme caution

Posted By: MW
eBay auction -- http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=8751261128

Several years ago, we submitted this card to SGC and sold it on eBay. Now, it is being resold by an individual who does not have the card in his possession. From my phone conversation with him, I found out that this is the third card he is selling for an unnamed client (who does not appear to be the person who originally purchased the card from us). The two previous items sold (on consignment) were modern, lower-ticket cards. Also, the current auction on eBay is using the same image that appears on our website. Lots of red flags on this one.

Posted By: Al Crisafulli
Thanks for this info. I was giving this card a serious look (being a 38 Goudey collector), but got cold feet when I saw the other items this seller has sold (shiny football cards).

I emailed the seller very politely asking for a scan of the card along with today's newspaper. No response.

Low feedback, stolen scan, three-day auction, no response = no bidding from me.

-Al

Posted By: MW
I'd like to add that I can't really fault the seller...at least based on my conversation with him. He appears to be genuine but far too trusting of the alleged consignor.

Lee and I have a business selling things on eBay for other people and we would never offer something unless we actually have the item in hand. Too easy for the seller to backout if they don't like the selling price and still have it in their possesion.

Jay

I've just reached Upper Lower Class.
