Which Seaver RC would you keep?

I currently have 2 Seaver rookies: an SGC5 and a PSA8(MC) and I'm looking to get some opinions on which to keep long term. The 2 options are attached, but to summarize my thoughts:
1. The SGC5 seems to have slightly better color and much better centering (although still not perfect), but has some print spots
2. The PSA8(MC) has no print spots and much sharper corners, especially evident when looking at the back
3. Edges seem to be about the same on both cards
4. While the PSA8(MC) obviously has terrible centering, the card isn't missing any of the yellow background on the front, and the green boarder is present all the way around the back.

My understanding is that the (MC) is generally worth approximately -2 grade points, so the PSA8(MC) is essentially a 6. Is that correct? Or does the terrible centering take away from the card so much that a typical collector would actually prefer the SGC5?

I bought a 67 set with many cards that were graded and broke out with the flips still with them. The Seaver was an PSA 8 OC I send it to SGC and it came back a 3.5. Doesn't seam right but the 5 is probably worth more in todays market.

keep the SGC 5, the color pops even on a tiny cell phone screen.

Wow, good to know! Crazy that an 8 would be downgraded to a 3.5 just because of the centering but that's exactly the type of info I'm looking for, thanks!

Easily the 5 for me. The centering and the colours making it a much nicer example IMO

Thanks! So for you, color and centering are more important than sharp corners and a few print spots?

I like the 5 too.

Not to be flippant but why not sell both and get a more well-centered example?

I vote the SGC 5 as well...that card pops. I'd keep em both though...:) Nice cards!

Definitely a possibility. These cards were my first big vintage purchases- I was more focused on the other attributes but I'm starting to appreciate centering more now, and see how important it is to the hobby as a whole.

Thanks! Seems like there's a pretty clear consensus towards the SGC5

Someone will pay big money for either card, so you need to factor that in as well. The 5 looks great to me, personally, and I have no problems with off-centered cards that do not look horrific, so the 8MC is still quite delicious. It's a toss up.

Other than which one you like better, see what each card should/could/would bring you dollar-wise, and figure out what you should/could/would do with that money, and then make a decision on which scenario (selling the 5 or selling the 8MC) plays out the best for you at the moment.

If possible, I would also take your time. The Seaver RC is monumental and will always continue going up in value, so the longer you wait the better you'll do.

And if you want to trade, I have a mid-grade Gregg Jefferies RC I'd swap for one of them. :D

I really like the color on the 5. Would keep that one.

Seaver

Hi- I'd keep the 5. It's nicer and the lovely PSA qualifier is a killer to card
values. Trent King

Keep in mind yours has a MC designation, not OC. So it saying it's less than 90/10 at it's worse point. So the 2 grade rule of thumb likely doesn't fit. That said, PSA tends to be inconsistent especially on these things so who knows how they would grade it today.

That said, if you want to donate the one you don't keep, this Seaver fan would be happy to take it off your hands. ;)

Both are beautiful!!

The SGC 5 all day long. It is a great looking card. The OC PSA card is not so much. I just can't see past very OC cards.

I think keep the 8 and trade the 5 to me…..last card needed for my set…..:)
