Sorry, just have to vent

So there is a seller on eBay who has fairly high prices on the cards he lists (repeatedly). There has been some discussion about this on the board. But this listing just sort of tells me he has no clue what he is even listing.

The card is missing the entire top white border. The thing the card set is often referred to ... the white border set. Yet, missing one-fourth of what the set is named after, he still calls it a VG card? If you were in to graded cards, this would at best be an authentic, not a VG. And I'm sure at this asking price, it will show up again in seven days, then again in 14, 21, etc.

Sorry, this listing just irked me.

Dean's Cards routinely overprices their cards, by a lot. I'm not sure why. Makes me wonder if they really want to sell anything.

I think the main reason why people keep their price high (and keep relisting them when they don't sell) is because they pretty much paid retail or more on them and don't want to lose any money. That's the nature of dealing with sports cards though. We make money on some, break even on most, and lose money on some. Some people don get it though.

I really don't understand putting ridiculous price tags on cards that are essentially a commodity. I especially don't understand doing it on ebay where anyone doing a search will see that Griffith for $200 right next to a nicer example for half the price. It makes zero sense. If you have a high grade rare card, sure put a ridiculous price on it and let people come to you with offers. But on t206s? It's like setting up a new gas station across the intersection from a Chevron and charging $12 a gallon. I can't think of a single reason that they would waste their time listing that stuff. Luckily, we have the option of excluding them from our searches (which I always do).

I saw this on ebay earlier this morning and thought the same thing. I was going to post about this too, but you beat me to it. I've never seen such an obviously trimmed card.

They have some of the most ridiculous pricing & overgrading I have ever seen on EBay, & that's saying alot!

The hatred of Dean's Cards is well established on the post war side:

He has 12,000 completed items with 600 sold.

Looks like he is selling 5% of his listings.

HOW is he selling any?

And HOW is it worth his time and effort to list this many things while only selling 5% of them?

I bought a card from him recently. It was a Buy-It-Now for $56.49.

I think I may have overpaid! ;) Thoughts?
