Hard battle in Heritage auction.

Finally found my white whale and very pleased to not to have to search for this any longer. Love the card but had to pay up on this one due to a hard battle with a fellow Joe Wood collector I assume.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...7a14780765.jpg

Great pick up Doug and congratulations. I dropped out of that one early so you can't blame it on me.

Yeah, when something like that FINALLY shows up, you just have to go for it.

Doug, Since I don't collect pre-war cards, I was unaware of this one; however, I was aware of the good portrait of Mr. Wood, from whence this card was made. Just to say it is a genuine beauty, sir. I became an admirer of Smoky Joe upon reading THE GLORY OF THEIR TIMES, one of my Christmas presents in 1966, I believe.

From my experience, and I was just thinking about this the other day, to acquire most of my most cherished cards, I had to pay more, sometimes substantially more money, than the going or book price. Were they were it?

YOU BETTER BELIEVE IT! For that matter, I still own most of them.

You did well, sir. Heartiest congratulations from a fellow Hoosier.:)
