Help ID this NY Highlander

Does anybody recognize this player who's pictured with the NY Highlanders? I think he may be misidentified on the team composite. I searched player images from baseball-reference and did a google image search, but found nothing definitive.

Looks like Wagner.

Time to put it on eBay and add a few zeroes to your asking price.

May be Walter Manning...

I have seen that image identified as Jimmy O’Rourke (son of HOfer Jim O’Rourke)

That exact Manning photo is included in the 1908 NY composite.

Below right is Jimmy O'Rourke as a 1908 NY Highlander, from an RMY Auction.

Does anybody think it matches the player labeled "O'Rourke" in the 1908 NY composite? Looks like two different players to me.

Paul,
The player you pictured from the Highlanders composite is Joseph (Patsy) O'Rourke, 1908 Cardinals shortstop.
https://www.baseball-reference.com/p...ll_appearances
The frequent photo errors from this period are usually a player with the same last name or similar since file photos often just had the last name written on the back.

Great job tracking this down. In case any of you failed to check out the link, the baseball-reference site shows the exact photo for Patsy O'Rourke as is seen in that composite.

Brian

Dude played for one year, hit .195, with OPS+ of 65.

When is the Veterans Committee going to wake up and put this man in the HOF!!!??

Bob, great work! I hadn't considered that the mystery player in the composite could be from a different team, let alone have the same last name. I thought it was a labeling mix-up with two different Highlanders players. Thanks for your help!

Rhett, thanks for posting the link to the NY team. Jim Jr.'s only major league experience was 34 games with the 1908 Highlanders. It's unfortunate that his only major league team composite pictured the wrong person!
