BST Auction football

BST had some very nice vintage football in their auction that ended last night. Anybody pick up something nice they want to share?

I'd like to see some winnings as well -- I got outbid on the Wedemeyer Exhibit card.

The only item I bid on was the 32 Championship program - I was nowhere near winning though :)

There was another interesting program. It incorrectly lists Tony Latone's college as Purdue:

As mentioned in another thread, there was a stigma at this time against any players who didn't go to college. It's likely either Latone or the promoters for the Coral Gables game assigned Latone a college so he'd fit in with everybody else.

Shocked at the price the 1932 program went for. I had it valued at between $5K-$7K given other sales but clearly a couple of collectors really wanted it.

I can understand that as it's a great piece of history and anyone would love to own it!

Another interesting thing about that price - its possible that program was the same one sold on the History channel TV show Pawn Stars for 2,750. This is only link I can find right now, but there are others:

I don't believe it is. Can't remember where I saw a photo of that one but I believe the burn marks were much more extensive on it. This one was in a bit better shape.

OK, thanks Jeff - the only reason I watch the show is for the off chance of catching something like that and of course I missed it. I did see once where they bought a very early (late 60s?) Miami Dolphins playbook. I don't know if the fact that you don't see those much, make them more or less collectable though.

I picked up the Walker Packer set.

I stopped bidding on the Grange Coral program at like $1200, I love that pose of him on the front, like he's going to burst through the page :)

I would have loved the Bears program, but the Walker Packer set took precedence, and I wasn't sure if someone was sandbagging it to bid late. I live on the west coast so it was easy to stay up and watch the auction, which ended around Weekend Update on SNL. :)

Don't rub it in, Joe. We East Coaster's truly suffer in these late night auctions, particularly those that end during the week.

Man, that Walkers Cleaners set was great. If I hadn't recently picked up a large lot of these, I would have been your sandbagger ;-)

That's okay Jeff, I was able to pickup some nice 1926 Sport Company of America football (including Ed Weir, Koppisch) while Joe was taking his beauty sleep ... Maybe he finally throw in the towel and consign his to MSB !!!

LOL

That's okay, I screwed up years ago on a Nevers. It was in great shape and it was someone on this board. Haven't seen it since.

If either of you guys run into another Oberlander, let me know. I need it.

Carl: your registry set includes a Nevers. What, you want two? :)

Just a nicer one. I like to make my sets uniform, not perfect.

When you find that upgrade, Carl, you know where to ship your old one.
