Boston Americans in their grotesque makeups

Thought some of you might find this interesting. August 13, 1908, was Cy Young appreciation day at the Huntington Grounds in Boston. The Red Sox played an exhibition game against a team of American League all-stars. Before the game, the Boston players, dressed in various costumes, performed what the Boston Globe described as "antics" to entertain the fans. This photo is from the August 14, 1908, issue of the Globe.

I wonder if any photos (or at least a roster) exists for the American League all star team they played that day.

Here's a box score:

Never seen that before. It would be cool to see a type 1 photo which was used for the publication. Being a Cy Young collector, it would be nice to have.

Yikes! Criger should be called "Cringer" for his choice of that checkerboard outfit!

Thanks for posting the boxscore. It sure would have been fun to watch Willie Keeler play in an all star game of sorts.

Is that what they thought Pilgrims looked like?

According to the article in the Globe, Young was dressed as a farmer, Criger a Dutch comedian, Sullivan a clown, Wagner a Swede, Gessler a country doctor, Cicotte an Irishman, and Burchell and Donohue as Chinamen.
