Not a hardcore T206 guy. Bought a Matty Dark Cap around the year 2000 and have acquired several dozen since. My age is 63 which is approximately equivalent to my Monster Number.

60. First card in 1959, sold my collection to pay for a divorce; acquired my first t206 who knows when, which I still have. Thought it was 1992 but more likely in the '80s. Restarted collecting at 59.

Gum cards in the 60s. Collected nothing after that until 1989 then I started collecting baseball, hockey and lacrosse tobacco cards.

Lgarza99 07-14-2013 02:03 PM

48 and I just started. When I was a kid I loved playing Superstar Baseball board game and loved all the old names. I'm also new to this sight as I was recommended to this sight by bigsaintsfaninbigd. I love the sight and I look forward to learning from you all. Thanks in advance for all the help.

40, started aged 35 but sold off almost everything to get a masters degree. Tentatively, collecting again.

Thirteen 07-14-2013 02:36 PM

44...got my first one - a Wayne Miller special - Cobb bat off shldr in about 1985. Stopped while starting a family about 3 or 4 years ago, been picking up the pace lately.

Jerry G 07-14-2013 02:42 PM

60 (sh*t)

Bought my first at 13-14 years old from Card Collector's Co. Sold all 225 when my daughter started on her Master's Degree. Have reacquired about 12. That is probably it for T206. Falling hard for Obaks.

sbfinley 07-14-2013 02:46 PM

29. Started 22-23. Had a couple hundred, but sold most of them two years ago when I went back to school. I kept about 50-60 of my HoFers and favorites and maybe picked up a half dozen since, but found other projects of late.

deadballfreaK 07-14-2013 02:59 PM

59. Bought my first, a Sovereign 350 Doc White portrait at about 20-21. Still have it.

brob28 07-14-2013 03:17 PM

45, collector for many years but just recently began t206.

Tao_Moko 07-14-2013 03:21 PM

37. Started buying T206 at nine years old. First card was a Clark Griffith portrait in very poor condition. I had it until last year. I worked in a card shop after school in Portsmouth Ohio during the mid-eighties called Pack Rats.

shaunsteig 07-14-2013 03:38 PM

neat thread. 33 now, picked up first T206 card 21 years ago (Lundgren chicago). Then collected contemporary baseball cards, quit for a long while, and reacquired the bug little over 3 years ago.

p.s. wonder if someone can put this as a poll or something, so we can generate some stats on it.

William Todd 07-14-2013 03:48 PM

63. Second time completing set, Have a complete t207 set also. Glad to see all you young guys.

judsonhamlin 07-14-2013 03:55 PM

It was about 1982 or 83. A near mint Winfield was the hot card and the three 206's were vg. I remember thinking I got shorted a little. Oh, how times have changed...

I'm guessing by the early '90's when that Winfield hit about $250-$300, you really felt that.. You definitely made out in the long run though!

36. I got my first T206 at about 13, started truly collecting them at 22. Aside from an occasional upgrade now, I stopped about a year ago and think I'm done.

Collector age!

At 71 I am the old fart I guess! It is great seeing so many of you "youngsters" (50 and under) into collecting. I have one young man...now about 15...who started buying T206s at about age 8 or 9. He came into a show in Raleigh with his Dad and after we talked 20 or 30 minutes about collecting he purchased, from me, two T206s. He is now 14 and six foot three and still come to almost every one of my shows in that area. Although I would not consider him an expert he is very knowledgeable and loves Pre-WWII cards.

49.....first T206 when about 10 but not another one till 1990's......

internet is key. Didn't exist when I was young and I had no good way(in Miami, Florida) of getting to prewar cards. Card shop far away and stuff too expensive for me...so many roadblocks.....internet has opened a way I didn't have....

Barry, good to hear.

Wazoo, envy you starting at that age. You have foresight I did not have.
