Found this baseball player cardboard cutout standee thing at estate sale. What is it?

Hey guys, found this at an estate sale. I can’t find any markings or words on it aside from that headline there. No brand/markings on it. Thinking about throwing it up on eBay but wanted to try to learn anything about it.

No serious response, but I instead offer this: If you bend him more at the knees and waist, he will be more comfortable.

Just a generic advertisement to who knows what its for of present baseball

It is possibly for one of the card price guides. Generic enough so that the bookseller could trot it out every year.

Congrats as I think you are the proud owner of a "One Off"

That thing does not exist on the internet - which is almost unbelievable to me!

Looks like a promotional cutout for card stores to use in the 90s in connection with a new release of some type. Just a guess.

Haha I know, right?! That’s what I thought. It’d be pretty cool for a “man cave” or hobby room or whathaveyou. I might throw it up on ebay at a high BIN, see what happens.

Similar font/color to Sports Collectors Digest

I agree. Everything about this screams "book store advertising piece" to me. Google also says that the phrase "collector's classic" or "collectors' classic" was part of the publisher's synopsis for at least some of the editions of the Beckett annual price guide between 2000-2009 (see also old Beckett listings on abebooks.com), so my best guess is Beckett guide-related advertising piece, probably no more than 15 years old.

Hmm, I'd be surprised if it was that recent. I got it at an estate sale which had toys and games and cards from late 70s - the early 80s. Something that recent would be pretty out of place I think.

After seeing the big red circle on the standee, the first thing that came to mind was Sports Collectors Digest.

With the exception of the Capital "C" used on the actual published title, the font used on the word "collectors" seems to be a match.

Sports Collectors Digest sounds about right (not sure of course).
