1904 Aleghenys Unique or Not ? :

I purchased two of these having read in Krauss that they were one-of-a-kind test-set cards. Krauss repeated that claim in last year's catalog update. However, I happened to check PSA population report last week and it listed 2 Mathewsons. I called to be sure it was not a misprint and the CS rep could not say one way or the other. I then called Al Rosen and he said that he does not believe that there are any cards of which only one copy was ever produced. He said they may have been new discoveries. Yesterday, I saw that there was a beat-up Mordecai Brown on Ebay and I find it hard to believe that is the only one of Brown.

They are unique, think the Mathewson was regraded due to PSA missing an ink dot if I recall correctly.

Link to the Brown?

That was a poor fake on ebay and each of the cards is uniquely known. If a player has a Pop of more than 1 then it means it was re-holdered. Neat cards...

Many if not most of the cards have those damn ink dots. Mine has it...I think some were expertly erased and didn't leave a mark, similar to the W575-1/E121 Herpolsheimer cards (also uniquely known). They all have/had writing on them too. I don't know if ALL of the Allegheny's had the mark....Some might not have had them to start with.

as far as I am aware no other Allegheny's have been found other than the original deck of them....

Anyone selling their Allegheny?

Just wondering. There's one guy who has had his J.J.Warner out there for $1950 for the last couple of years.

As are many of this sellers current and past listings. He's been a popular topic of discussion.
