ullmandds 08-01-2022 07:33 PM

INSANE!!!!!! There must be brown old mills and lots of rare backs in there. Maybe a plank or Wagner????

chalupacollects 08-01-2022 07:52 PM

Kidnapped18 08-01-2022 08:50 PM

Awesome!!! Love to hear stories about new "finds" especially t206s!

Cmvorce 08-01-2022 10:50 PM

My god, I got excited reading that. It kept getting better and better. Thanks for posting, Jeff. Hope you are well.

Prof 08-01-2022 11:50 PM

Absolutely nuts.

I'd love to just sort and organize them.

I hope they'd release a comprehensive list of what was in the find.

That would be a blast to pull each card one by one to discover what else that hoard had to offer.

Just shows you, a ton of material is still out waiting to be unearthed. And how common most of the cards in the T206 set are.

He talk some trash, take your cash, then he will start foldin'

Would love to see the breakdown of everything once it's all gone through and sorted out. Is this something they would go ahead and publish for people in the future?

Along with the T206s, I'm sure there are plenty other goodies in here:

"But that wasn’t all. There were 19th century Old Judge cards. T202s and T205s. Several hundred 1933 Goudeys including Babe Ruths and Lou Gehrigs, hundreds of 1934-36 Diamond Stars and other tobacco issues from more than a century ago."

Good job keeping the hyper up. Pretty sure they have gone thru every single card and know there weren't any Big 4 and super rare backs in those piles.

I'm happy for the family of the original collector that they'll see some financial benefit on these and get paid fairly going through a major auction. Better that, then the get taken advantage of.

I have dreams sometimes of finding such a horde...and always wake up so so so disappointed it wasn't real :).

Shows you how rare those cards are. No hype needed, astonishing find as it is, one you and I would be soiling our drawers to run across.

Yes, common in the sense that so many were produced and so many are still around. With unlimited resources, you'd have no problem completing the 524 set in a few months. On the other hand, this is one of the great finds ever.

Early winter, 1972, I found 1100 T205’s and T206’s from a farmer outside of Max, ND. He got them as a kid in 1909-1912 NYC, so they have had only two owners in 110 years. My find pales in comparison to this one.

Incredible pictures. Reminds me of all the double row graded boxes that I have with 4 rows of raw T59's. Looks just like those pictures. I probably have around 12 thousand of them. I wish they were T206's, but if someone walked in some place with my T206 hoard, They'd be amazed by the quantity and the lack of Piedmont and common Sweet Caporal backs. I'm working on my website, so everyone can see the cards I have, and I would probably be looking to upgrade some cards.

Bump; thread died way too quickly.

Joe_G. 08-14-2022 08:37 PM

I'm anxious to hear a more complete sharing of what was found . . . Old Judge cards etc.

To be the first one to open these boxes and sort through this collection after who knows how many years, would be incredible.

chriskim 08-17-2022 12:48 PM

if no Big 4, no rare backs..... then I don't find it interesting, it is like browsing all those endless t206s on eBay. :o

I used to bird hunt that area pretty heavily in 2001-2003. Not much in Max but that bar is still there.

I don't know man, if I were to be given multiple huge boxes of raw T206 cards, I imagine that would keep me occupied for hours and hours of sorting, cataloging and examining.
