Play Some More Variety!

This is how much I dislike radio talk shows. The only people playing music in the morning instead of talking in LA seems to be KRTH. But they play the songs on this list on KRTH EVERY morning!

1. Duran Duran - Hungry Like The Wolf or Rio
2. Come On Eileen – Dexy’s Midnight Runners
3. Boy George - Karma Chameleon
4. A-ha – Take On Me
5. Rick Springfield – Jesse’s Girl
6. Soft Cell – Tainted Love or Where Did Our Love Go
7. Eagles - Hotel California (Good song but they have other hits)
8. One of three Michael Jackson songs – Billie Jean, Beat It, or Thriller
9. One of two Prince songs – Usually Let’s Go Crazy, or Little Red Corvette
10. Cindy Lauper – Girls Just Want To Have Fun
11. Go Go’s – Our Lips Are Sealed or We Got The Beat
12. Toto – Africa
13. Blonde – Call Me
14. Wham – Wake Me Up (Before You Go Go)
15. Billy Joel – My Life
16. NDW – 99 Luftballons (Yes, really)
17. Bee Gees – A Song From “Saturday Night Fever”, usually Stayin’ Alive
18. Frankie Valli – Grease
19. Elton John – Tiny Dancer
20. Men Without Hats – Safety Dance
21. Human League – Don’t You Want Me
22. Queen – We Will Rock You/We Are The Champions (Also a good song, just not daily)
23. Corey Hart - Sunglasses At Night
24. Survivor - Eye Of the Tiger
25. Bon Jovi - Livin' On A Prayer

It varies daily, and sometimes they throw in a song by Guns & Roses or AC/DC just to keep you guessing, but these songs are in the regular rotation. You could program this station with one Greatest Hits of the 80's CD!

I hear you. There are about 4 rock radio stations in my area, and none of them have any distinguishing features. I remember once going on a road trip, and in Tennessee or something there was a radio station playing Robin Trower, and it was just such a novelty to hear someone who you haven't heard a hundred times before.

At least a dozen good alternatives available daily on FM in the Western New York / Southern Ontario market
-- "classic rock," "moldy oldies," "new alternative," "top 40," rap / hip-hop, country -- although yeah,
several go to way too much "morning zoo" / DJ jibberjabber on the morning drive time-slots.

Biggest recent disappointment in regional radio here was one of the stations jettisoning the nationally syndicated
JACK format for all-heavy-metal-all-the-time. JACK was (is) our favourite -- excellent constantly-mixed playlist of
'60s-'70s-'80s-'90s "classic" and the funniest station promo spots ever.

We have JACK out in LA too, and it's a pretty good alternative. I just kept hearing that same mix of songs on KRTH and after awhile I could predict what song was coming next! So I finally started a list just to be sure I wasn't crazy and sure enough, they played about 6 of them this morning.

Our one remaining rock station aside from one that's more oldies than anything else and very generic was sold, and changed suddenly to christian contemporary pretty suddenly during their 50th anniversary year. All the on-air people were let go, many after 20 years or more. The whole thing took maybe 2 weeks.

Bye WAAF.... :(

So many rock hits from the 60s and 70s that get beaten to death on the radio. So many of them just need to be retired. Instead it's like they are grandfather in for life. Maybe I should start a thread called "Songs I Never Ever Need to Hear Again."

I'm talking to you Kansas and that "Dust in the Wind" dreck . . . .

I fully admit to being "totally stuck in the '80's," but I don't ever need to hear any of these songs again.

The station I listen to now played that the other day. First time I'd heard it in a couple years at least.

I like it, but if we can bundle it with Bohemian Rhapsody.... I'd seriously consider it.

Or as one local station used to have in a bumper,

Those 45s aren't lost, someone hid them.

Stream KEXP, listen to WFUV

Well, that is one more nice thing about the internet -- as long as you've got a connection (and hopefully
headphones or earbuds, if you're somewhere in public, so you're not imposing your musical tastes on anyone else),
you can listen to just about any station in the world. We ventured down a rabbit hole while researching the career
of pre-War Canadian hockey broadcaster Gerry Wilmot several weeks ago and as a consequence wound up listening
to Euro-pop on a station from South Africa for several days...
