T205 Hoblitzell no stats?

I'm guessing this isn't an actual Hoblitzell no stats back, but shouldn't there be something in the description to indicate that? I know that Greg Morris Cards never has any description other than the info in the title of the listing, but in this case, I think they should have made an exception.

T205 Hobby no stats have only been found with the Hassan 30 back. If it has a Hassan 30 back, the stats are missing on this subject. He does say 'low grade filler' for the Cycle, which it is. Still could be confusing, unless you read the board. I learned this info from reading the board over the years.

jayshum 05-18-2022 12:24 PM

The listing was just ended. It will be interesting to see if the card gets relisted with any additional information about it.

T205 GB 05-18-2022 02:59 PM

That card does not even close to authentic. That’s an altered card made to try to cheat someone out of some money at one point. I’m sure Gregg is well aware that it’s not a no stats back. It looks like somebody got their finger wet and rub the stats off. Definitely water or some type of moisture used in the process of removing that area.

You can tell how moisture was used because when you look at where the paper tearing is it’s a very subtle and soft tear like the fibers kind of got pulled out of the area. Just moisture as small as licking your finger on rubbing it across there will cause the paper to start rolling up. If you keep it wet enough you can essentially peel off a thin layer of paper leaving nothing there. You’d have to be a mighty fine car doctor to be able to fix that area up but I am not one bit surprised IF some of the cards we already have was created in modern times.

I am sure Morris will take the time to write a single sentence in the listing calling it out this time.

To me this is a massive black eye for Gregg. He knows what's up with this card already. His willingness to keep the card only to be relisted just as vague is a direct act to dupe a buyer IMO.

brianp-beme 03-28-2023 06:07 PM

Listing for the card has been removed, much like the stats on its back.

G1911 03-28-2023 06:13 PM

How many months until he has it back it up without a description?

jayshum 03-31-2023 03:50 PM

The listing wasn't removed. It's ending at 7:02 PM tonight.

trambo 03-31-2023 04:53 PM

Definitely altered as others have already said. the No Stats card only comes with a Hassan back. I believe the Cincinnati after 1908 is the only variation that comes in a Cycle back.

A PSA 4 Cycle Hoblitzell sold last month on eBay for $152. I wonder why Morris got more for this one? Hm. Crazy. Buyer should know better but ripping people off by declining to disclose known alteration to make a card appear as a tougher card shouldn’t be accepted because the dealer is popular.

Well, I'll be snickerdoodled! I thought I checked the link that John provided and the listing had been removed.

With a $225 auction result, I guess my unintentional sabotaging of this spurious card listing was all for naught.

Unfortunately, it went for under $250 so it won't go through the eBay Authentication Process. It would have been interesting to know how that went since the description is just "low grade (filler)" in the title with no claim that it's the no stats variation.

Wow, not much gets by this board.

For clarification - is my understanding correct? This is the fourth time GMCARDS has tried to sell this card?

The previous links don't work so perhaps a screen shot of this latest one would be something to post (in case there's a fifth time).

Now for the stupid comment - Maybe there's a GMCARDS vault and the sellers keep it with GMCARDS and the latest seller is pulling it from the vault to make a few bucks. HEY - it's a joke!

What's the speculation here? GMCARDS sold the card 3x and it's been returned 3x and now it's going up for grabs a fourth time in an effort to make a few dollars (and potentially screw up a good reputation)?

It's difficult to rationalize this.

Edited to add - a first tiime poster outs this? I'm guessing it's a second ID for a board member. Why not just use your N54 user ID.

G1911 01-24-2024 10:58 PM

I do not get why Greg Morris is so dedicated to selling this card without any disclosures. It's dishonest, at absolute best. There is absolutely no way they don't know what they are doing by now. It's a little funny, his commission will be what, a few bucks on the sale if a buyer eventually doesn't return it because it's altered? I guess it doesn't matter, because most will jump to defend them because our hobby expects money and has little but distaste for honesty or disclosure.

Morris got only $86 on their fourth attempt to sell this card without disclosure. Maybe this buyer will keep it. Maybe GM will try to pass it off a fifth time and dupe another sucker in a few months.

Fred 02-03-2024 09:06 AM

Someone could easily stir up a hornets here by saying "if someone soaked the card, they could clean up the back so the erasure isn't noticed", but that would only incite a board riot. :p

Look at the flip side of this, at least the item description doesn't indicate "1911 T205 Gold Border Set-Break Dick Hoblitzell Cycle VG-VGEX (crease) - NO STATS"

Edited to add - but I get the point, a disclosure of the card being altered to remove the stats should probably be provided. Kind of like the "nodgrass" T206 being sold in a PSA holder that indicates it's a Snodgrass card but should probably be in an ALTERED holder because the "S" was erased.

Second edit to add the link to the "nograss" thread: https://www.net54baseball.com/showthread.php?t=343446

A REAL one!! (FULL DISCLOSURE - THANKS to my "MRS" for talking me into bidding ONE LAST TIME...)

Thanks, Bee!

Nice PSA 3!! I was lucky enough to upgrade my 2.5 about a year ago and I never thought I'd upgrade it. Such a beast of a card in any grade but in 3 or higher...wow!. Congrats!!!
