Help Request - Player info needed

Posted By: Jason L
Good evening!
I would like to make a small request to the all-knowing Board. I am looking for any knowledge or records that might be available for a player by the name of Ben T. Elkins.

I don't know what team or league he played for, -only that he played in 1928.
My checks of Baseball-Reference.com shows he never played in the majors. My checks through the 1900-1958 PCL reference book I have didn't show anything either.

Can anyone shed some light on where I might find info on this mystery man of the pre-war era?

Thanks in advance!
Jason

Posted By: Dan Bretta
There is nobody with that name in the Minor League database. Perhaps he was a semipro player? Lots of big companies (in the west it could have been an oil company) had semipro clubs and I suppose a baseball bat could have been made by LS for a guy like that.

Posted By: Jason L
You see right thru me...
Thank you for checking that for me.

Yes, I think that is where my quest will lead.
perhaps a big shot on the S.F. Stock Exchange semi-pro team of the era.

the bat with his name side-written on it is quite a mysterious antique. A heavy 40oz example, it has nails driven into one side of the barrel, a mailing label from the SF Stock Exchange, a few more nails in the handle, Elkins' signature....
anyway, thanks for checking

Jason
