She really meant it. Of course she followed with "Unless I really need the money".

2. She sees you packing a card that you've just sold and gets mad and asks you to stop selling!

3. You summer vacation is a visit to 2 MLB games (conveniently located neat the National), visit to the National Show and one of the few wives to attend the N54 dinner.

Dan
Posted By: Bob
What a great thread! My clients in the waiting room can't figure out why I am in my office falling on the floor laughing. Just think of all the creativity which would have gone down the drain if we didn't have to invent those cover-ups, half truths and convuluted stories to cover our card purchases from our wives.

My wife's only reaction to my cards is to laugh and chortle with glee when she sees how goofy some of the players look on the cards (and many DO look goofy, especially in the regional sets like T210s etc.) She knows I try to hold the line on spending and since she is going to outlive me, I have tried to give her a primer on value and some names of fellow collectors who can help her out if she decides to sell the tbob collection, but she is probably going to just split the collection among the 2 kids, one of whom (the 27 year single daughter) vows never to sell it and wants first pick because she is no dummy and wants the Matty signed baseball.

She loves going to Nationals now because she enjoys going to games, shopping, visiting art museums but won't set foot in the Convention Center on a bet. It works well for both of us If I had to slab her she would be a 10 OC.

BTW, on that "exchanging bodily fluids" comment, I guess it depends on whose bodily fluid you are making a withdrawal from. Keira Knightley's fluid is far more valuable than a well cut piece of cardboard any day of the week
(The wife doesn't read this board!)

Now that I think of it.... instead of a coffin..... I wonder if SGC would be willing to slab me with my collection in my pockets. And with that, now I am wondering what grade I would get.

2.
My wife asks when she is going to receive the money.

3.
My trip to the National cost me another trip to Aruba.

No.... my wife doesn't completely get the baseball collecting passion - but she is incredibly supportive. Much more supportive than I would be. Amazing to be so supportive with something you don't personally get. I am a lucky collector in that regard - - and for many many other reasons, I am a lucky man.

Now, as far as the bodily fluids, ATM machine, and little cameras.
My curiosity has heightened - and its something I want to try.

If you see me on a youtube video by an ATM - try not to think less of me.

edit: missing word giving completely wrong meaning
Posted By: John H.
For our 12th anniversary she presented me with plane tickets to Boston on May 17, 1999 returning on May 19. Those dates coincided with two Red Sox home dates against you know who. She had asked me some time before who Boston's biggest rival was but at the time I had no idea why. The first game's pitching matchup was a classic: Pedro and Cone. The second game wasn't quite as attractive: Brian Rose and Toad Irabu. The Sox won 'em both.

Looking back at it now, it's kind of amazing that I was able to call up the Red Sox box office and get an excellent ticket to both games, one down each line. The top price seat at Fenway in '99 was $35. Mine were $32. A lot has changed in less than 10 years.

Five years later she booked a night at the most expensive hotel in town for our 17th and when we entered the room and looked around I saw a framed 16" x 20" of Bobby Orr scoring "The Goal". "What a coincidence", I said out loud, "my favourite player." Upon closer inspection I saw that it was autographed. She then handed me the envelope with the COA in it.

She's the best.

Posted By: Fred C
Barry,

I'll be the first to admit that I can't believe what I'm about to say... Bruce, at first, annoyed the heck out of me. He said he had something which I don't think he actually possesed. He said he was going to send me a copy of an article from a 1920s publication that probably didn't exist. He never sent it. That really bugged me. You always hear/read how much he wants to purchase nice grade material. Well, he made an offer on something I had and he paid a fair price for it. That didn't necessarily make me like him but it did tell me he was actually serious about accumulating nice material.

Bruce starts some interesting threads and he seems to have this "Alan Rosen" type of persona where you if you really dislike him, you "really dislike him" In any case, Bruce does seem to start some interesting threads and he does get a lot of responses from those threads. If you look back at most threads that he starts he actually gets several people to post. In some cases the responses are related to the thread and in others it's that Alan Rosen thing...

When it comes to Bruce, I'm a little neutral these days. By the way Bruce, have you been married more than once? Or should I ask, have you been divorced more than once?

Edited to add: Adam, you come up with some pretty funny stuff... Sometimes these threads start to bust me up...
