ANTIQUING IN RED BANK , NJ . THIS SPECTACULAR (1890’s - 1910's ?) WRIGHT & DITSON DARTMOUTH BASEBALL WOOL JERSEY MAGNIFICENTLY APPEARED ON A FLOOR FORM... YOU COULDN'T DREAM THIS. I HAD TO PINCH MYSELF.

***Has an early Wright & Ditson Label. Can this label pin down a time period?

Sure. The uni guys on here will nail it soon, no doubt. Looks more like 20s-40s to me, but I'm no expert. Did you get it? And what's a floor form?

Oh, that is REALLY cool!

I actually saw that Jersey in Red Bank about 2 weeks ago at one of the antique stores. If I remember correctly that had it labeled as 1940s, not really a fit in my collection so I didn’t pay too much attention to it, it is a cool Jersey.

Very cool jersey. Not even close to being turn of the century.

I actually think that it could be turn of the century. Look at the back on the jersey. I thought that tailoring was long gone by the 20s, if not earlier.

I believe this is a forum member's page. It should help too: http://www.antiquesportscollector.com/TagsMain.html

Any Wright & Ditson labeling guarantees vintage of 1918 or earlier, as has been noted by many in the past (this is also mentioned on the wonderful collectors website owned by one of Net54's members that is listed in the post above). The company merged with Victor at this time, with this reflected in all post-1918 labeling.

Lol. His history explains a lot. Thanks for the heads-up.

Worth about $175 - $225 in that torn-up condition.

Dartmouth Road

Here is a sun collar Dartmouth road jersey with an early Horace Partridge label with no number and no cowboy yoke on the back like the one on eBay. I think it's late teen's early 20's? It sold for $200.00 with the socks recently....Looks to be in better condition?

thank you for all you insight....

Further research with keyman baseball members, this jersey is a three button full collar (cut) and mother of pearl buttons. The back of jersey style (v shape) dates to turn of the century.. The early wright & ditson tennis player label is pre 1918, which a net54 member did point it out..

Subject of photo match, we photo match with 1900-1905 dartmouth baseball jersey styles. After 1906, dartmouth baseball jersey displayed a 5 button style.....

Again, thanks to all members who replied

All correct info, and you did your due diligence. However that is called a "Style Match". A "Photo Match" is when the exact jersey in question appears in a vintage photo. Such photo matches can typically be confirmed by the following attributes...

1. Positioning of the jersey's pinstripes in relation the the lettering or team logo
2. Positioning of the jersey's lettering in relation to the buttons
3. Noticeable wear, marks, stains or tears in the same exact places as the photo portrays

There are other factors as well, but suffice it to say your Dartmouth Jersey is a Style Match.
