A few of my Recent Pick-ups.
Beautiful Wilmer Fields sliding snap taken in Puerto Rico Pete rose (can't tell the location on this one) Red Sox Spring Training In Florida And my favorite more modern snap in my collection so far is this Daryl Strawberry minor league snap with the Lynchburg Mets. Daryl is 19 here, And it looks like a Little League sized crowd showed up to watch!https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...db037f8b24.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...f481b21c23.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...5b445d2c54.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...99a635631d.jpg |
Recent no-hitter snapshot photo pickups
2 Attachment(s)
Here is a great 1951 snapshot of DET Tigers no-hit RHP Virgil "Fire" Trucks.
Trucks hurled 2 no-hitters the following year in 1952. Another cool one is this 1960 spring training snapshot of Boston Red Sox pitcher Earl Wilson. In 1962 Wilson hurled a no-hitter on 6/26 against the LA Angels. Many thanks to board member Gary Scamehorn for helping me find these great additions to my no-hit snapper collection.:D |

Tim, you might be right about this one, but I have snapshots with rounded corners as far back as the 1930s, and I have one color snapshot that's from the late 1940s.

My guess early to mid 60s. Looks like a U.S. Marine, and also looks like a Marine base - my guess would be Barstow Logistics Base, or Yermo, in California. The young man is wearing a sateen utility uniform with a Marine style web belt and his boots are bloused. A white t-shirt was also standard. This uniform was phased out in the mid 70s. The Quonset huts in the background were also very common during the period. They also were phased out (there are a few left) beginning about that time. Roberto Clemente was a U.S. Marine but unfortunately that's not him in the photo. Hope this helps.

I was basing my assumption on the back stamp. The Pavelle Brothers became Paterson-Pavelle in 1963. And started selling at home color photo kits. The fact it is on Pavelle Brothers Paper Likely Dates it prior to the company merging. Also the kits supplied a more standard paper with a white border. The Vietnam war started for America in 1964. Though who knows, It could have been taken anytime in between and not be during war time at all. I’ve just contacted a UK photo expert to get some better insight. Also I posted a few Kodachrome (color) Snaps of two Cardinals further back in the thread that date from 1948! The exact same wallet size print style as this young soldier. Along with the aagpbl color one that Chris is Referring to. |
My first Snap of the Duke. From the dodgers first year in LA! Sorry my photo is a bit fuzzy.

I LOVE a snapshot and these are all wonderful!
Here are only a few from my AAGPBL / women in baseball collection. I love any photo that shows the dugout, the spectators, the dirt on the ground. Images - Racine Belles dugout / Racine Belles players Maddy English and Doris Barr / Kenosha Comets player Betty Fabac |

I’m not into basketball or modern collecting. But this snap of Micheal Jordan with the Barons was beautiful when I saw it. So I made a single bid and won it! I can respect a legend trying his hand at other sports. His run was short lived, only a season in minor league ball. So I figured seeing another this nice isn’t super likely.

I took this after a game where Schmidt hit a game winning homer in the bottom of the ninth. I would love to get it signed but the cost would be way too high. I should have had it signed years ago. Oh Well.
Thanks, Bob Attachment 544534 |

I have never seen a Clemente snapshot sell for anywhere near this amount. I was out at $55.00.

This is a really great companion piece for any Roberto auto! Another possibility is a few of the bidders might've been kids and were at pirates spring training that year. And hey maybe even got Roberto's autograph! A real dream scenario that people would definitely pay up for. |
I was shocked at the '71 Clemente snapper hammer price as well!

My First ever Babe Snap.
Shows Babe at the Film Premier of The Pride Of the Yankees in 1942. Happy to grab one of the babe. Would of course love one on field in uniform later on too! New no-hit pitcher snappers
6 Attachment(s)
Here are a few recent no-hit pitcher snappers that I have added:
Jim Maloney 1960's snapshot. Maloney tossed two no-hitters in 1965 and 1969 in addition to an unofficial no-hitter in 1965 One personal HUGE score was finding a group of 18 snapshots that were taken of HOF Nolan Ryan warming up prior to the game on 8/15/93 @ CLE. Nolan got his last career win in this game- #324. What makes these snappers extra special is I own Nolan's game used full uniform from this game! ;) A great signed color snapper of Vida Blue on the mound when he dominated in the early 1970's. Blue pitched a no-hitter in 1970. Finally, a signed circa 1968 snapper of no-hit pitchers Ray Washburn and Bob Gibson. Oh yeah, also some guy named "Lefty". He had a pretty good career too... :D |
Walter and Clark

I don't think that I've posted this previously. Golfing photo of Clark Griffith with golf club setting up a shot watched by Walter Johnson - purportedly from Johnson estate.

Here are a couple pages from my Bill Davidson scrapbook which include photos of Zack Wheat and Davidson screwing around with guns. Also a page of the Brooklyn Dodgers on a Spring training trip.

My LOTG Win just showed up today.
A beautiful 1908 Snap of Christy Mathewson. Amazing clarity of Christy, stunning outfield view. I know it's a type 2, but to me that's irrelevant 1.Because it's a snapshot that was created from the negative that is very likely no longer in existence or lost somewhere deep in somebody's attic. 2. It's a very old copy, and would be easily discernable from a copy made anytime in the last 60+ years. I actually heavily disagree with the c1950s PSA guess, and would personally place it to a 1930s era copy. The back stamp design and the lack of kodak branding also attribute to this. As well as the great clarity. Maybe you think different, but In any case I'm pumped to have this one! https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...23578dda6f.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...2802130c90.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...f340e411df.jpg |

Picked up this Great Group of 5 snaps that just arrived today.
Taken in February 1974 in St Petersburg for old Timers day. Pictured in uniform are Red, Stan and Bob Let's play a little game, Can you name the last two?https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...c9d1dd9ae4.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...2990de257b.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...6e24ce4934.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...dc90a83618.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...06e792df1a.jpg |
The second one looks a bit like Enos Slaughter. I saw Bob Feller pitch in an old timers game around 1974. He still had some zip on the ball. Great snapshots!
|
Quote:
That's actually "Muscles" Ducky Medwick in the Blue Long sleeved shirt. The man in the suit is very hard to get, I'll give a hint on him that should be pretty damning. He swung one of the heaviest bats in baseball history! |
Is it Edd Roush?

Here's one that looks like a snapshot, but I'm not really sure what it is. There's an identical picture on PSA's Autograph Facts page but with a different inscription.

Snapshot or not, regardless, it's awesome! Having it inscribed to Ed is awesome for you. Congrats! |
Love the photo of the kid imitating Ott. Judging by the ball in the catchers glove it looks like he got his front foot down a bit late maybe he was imitating Ott facing Feller.

Pre rookie Minor league shot of Tommy Davis with the Montreal Royals. Alongside Solly Drake.
Tommy only played 14 games with the Montreal club before moving on. So I can't imagine too many shots exist of him in a Montreal uniform. Solly also has his part in history as half of the first African American brother duo to make the major leagues. He did it alongside his brother Sammy. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...1a1057ff6e.jpg |

I love the shot of Babe in front of the tunnel. Is that Forbes Field? I have a number of snapshots taken with the same background. and most of them were taken by EF Collins.
Lucas, do you where know your snapshot of Solly Drake and Tommy Davis was taken? I'm wondering if it's Delorimier Stadium. Here are snapshots of Dixie Walker with the same background as Babe, and Tommy Davis, taken in 1958 with the Victoria Rosebuds, likely just a month or so before he joined Montreal. |
Quote:
Not sure what stadium the Ruth photo was taken, but it does look like the same background as your Walker photo. The back is stamped American Studios. |
Quote:
Love the Sparkle Tone Branding as well on your shot, it gives that 50s aesthetic that I love so much. As for the stadium, definitely is Delorimier! Will attach a great photo to show similarities. It's A few decades earlier but shows the high right field wall and the windowed factory style building beyond the stadium. Also Speaking of Ef Collis, I have a beautiful very young Don Drysdale (seemingly rookie year?) Shot I believe Collins took. Very snap-esque though I believe it's a shot made to be sold (though I'm not certain, can't find Another example). With a great looking auto from Don. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...0ee354969b.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...ec647c4897.jpg |

There was a wonderful group of snapshots taken in 1939 and 1940 in Crosley Field that was auctioned off on eBay last week. There were 7 team lots representing each visiting team. I was fortunate enough to win two lots, the Cubs and Bees. Did anybody else where win any of the lots? Pictured below are Dizzy Dean, Claude Passeau, Al Simmons (with an unidentified player, maybe Eddie Miller) and Casey Stengel.

Great wins!!! |
Hi Lucas, the seller didn't identify most of the stars. He said the Dodgers lot was from 1939, so I was hoping the snapshot of Pee Wee would slip through the cracks because he came up in 1940. It was a real beauty.
I didn't realize Stengel and Simmons were part of the Bees lot until after I bought it. The seller identified the photographer as a Mrs. Ben Fox, who's pictured above with Passeau. Quote:

Great pick ups!
I was the under bidder on the Dodgers lot. The Pee Wee was certainly a hidden gem. Props to who won it! Congrats on the Cubs lot Chris!...I was the under bidder on that one as well Awesome Dizzy & you get a pic of the photographer as well which is what I thought was neat. I was lucky to win the Giants & Phillies lot. |
I forgot to post this one. I got it a few months back in REA, I think.

Two photos of the same U.S. Olympic female track athlete taken inside the stadium at Berlin. She is wearing her opening ceremony parade uniform in the first photo and warm up suit in the second. You can see her participation badge on her lapel in the first photo. Impossible to read, but is says 'Leicht Athletik' on an orange ribbon. I just received them. Though not quite sure, I believe she is Gertrude Wilhelmsen who competed in discus and javelin. In the background of the photo on the right you can see two members of the medical staff carrying a stretcher. The swastika armband is visible on the one just behind the guard.
Attachment 562077 U.S. Olympic rowers on the ship on the way to Berlin for the 1936 Olympics. All of them competed for one of the rowing clubs in Philadelphia (Undine, Penn AC). The one standing won a bronze medal in single sculls. The others did not medal. Attachment 562078 |

I was scanning some autographs including the one on this photo. Members of the 1932 Olympic track team. The women walking to the right is 19 year old Babe Didrikson. The woman above her right arm is the only 1932 Olympian I met in person: Mary Carew. The tall blonde in the middle is Billie von Bremen. They both won a gold medal in the 4x100m relay.

Wow, Babe Didrikson had some stout legs on her ass!
