Anyone attend this weekend's PCL show?

Posted By: Chris Counts
Patrick,

I went to the San Leandro show Saturday and had great time. I didn't realize the show had such a PCL focus, but that explains why there was so much wonderful PCL stuff there. I've never seen more Remars, Mother's Cookies and Signal Oil cards in my life. It's a good thing I collect them. It was the first time I attended this particular show, which I've heard other collectors rave about. I'm really glad I went because I was getting a little cynical about the local Tri-Star shows, which seem to me somewhat impersonal with so much emphasis on grading companies, auction houses and shiny autographed stuff. The San Leandro show is much smaller, but everybody is really friendly, and I had a great time meeting guys like Mark MacRae (an incredible wealth of knowledge), who apparently organizes the show. Kevin from Stevens Creek cards and Sal of Amazing Adventures were there as well with their usual assortment of impressive stuff. I also enjoyed meeting our very own Peter Chao, whose enthusiasm for cards is just as apparent in person as it is on this forum. Just about everybody seemed more than willing to bargain, and a surprising number of dealers were willing to trade as well. I'm looking forward to the next show!

Posted By: Chris Counts
Patrick,

It was mostly 40s and 50s stuff. Mark looked like he had some early Zeenuts, but I don't recall seeing many Obaks, and I would have have noticed, since they're one of my favorite sets ... Here's a couple cards I picked up that I thought were interesting. I like Lodgiani's signature, and I love the way some kid colored in his collection of Remars with colored pencils. I bought a bunch of them for a song ...

[IMG][/IMG]

[IMG][/IMG]

Posted By: Mark Macrae
Patrick....The St Leanders show is for all types of sports collectibles. It is not limited to PCL, to baseball, or to cards for that matter. You may be confusing this event with the Pacific Coast League Player Reunions which are held annually in Los Angeles(May) and Oakland (August). At those events, material offered for sale is restricted to the PCL, or to the players who are attending....At St Leanders, you will find items from several different sports (Baseball, Football Basketball Hockey, Boxing, Golf, Olympics and more). There are also a number of non-card items available. Despite the focused area on this website, you'll also be able to find newer material there as well. St Leanders is held twice per year (4th Saturdays of June & November). I usually post something on the show (with Leon's approval) .... Chris, Glad you like the Lodigiani card. Lodi is one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet. That one was signed before his stroke (a few years ago), although he made a remarkable recovery. Lodi is a true baseball 'Lifer' having entered pro ball in the 1930's and is still involved, as a limited scout, for the White Sox. He is a regular attendee of our Oakland reunions and is a member of the PCL's Hall of Fame....
