Boxing Cabinet questions
2 Attachment(s)
Hi-
I recently acquired the cabinet pictured below and I had a few questions that I was hoping someone might be able to help me answer. 1. Is this a boxing stance? Or is there a chance it is wrestling? 2. Any chance either of the men are "known" boxers? I assume they were local amateurs but want to double check. 3. Are there any other boxing cabinets from this photographer (Fischer)? 4. Can anyone provide an approximate date for the cabinet? I thought 1890s but I am not sure. I would greatly appreciate any additional information related to this cabinet or the boxers pictured. Thanks in advance, Alan Elefson aelefson@hotmail.com |
Looks like boxing, pre-1890's. Possibly as far back as the 1870's. It's possible I guess it's 1890's, but in a retro pose for the time.
No idea who the characters are. They've got the right gear to be legit bareknucklers, though the poses seem a bit clumsy for anybody with a bit of experience in the sport. |
Thank you for the information! I really appreciate it!

Looks like awkward amateur boxers. If I'm seeing it right they're wearing street shoes and socks.

1880s boxers.

Thank you David and Adam! Adam, I thought the shoes looked odd as well.
Thanks again, Alan |
If you look on Adams web site. John C. Heenan and Jem Carney's N167 sure look like above the ankle leather shoes much like the ones in you pictue. I didn't see a Nike swoosh on them!:)
