Searching for my "Grail" card... Quincy Trouppe. Looking for leads, help and history!

Hi all,

I've been on the search for a certain card ever since @mannybb24 was kind enough to share some photos of his copy with me...

Being the history student that I am, I often gravitate towards lesser known figures and their stories (see my recent thread about Charles Jackson French) and Trouppe and his career in baseball is one such interest of mine. Even though Trouppe is somewhat unknown (I imagine he is better known on here) he has become one of my favorite players in the long and extensive history of the game of baseball. As is with any obscure player, their selection of cards is often few and far between and Trouppe is no different. He does however, have a few cards in the various Toleteros Puerto Rican Winter League sets (I believe 1948-49 is his rookie?) as well as one card in a 1950 Mexican League set from when he played with the Jalisco Charros and also served as the manager. The 1950 card is the one I am after! I also believe that there was a postcard of Trouppe produced in 1941 but I've only seen a scan before... can anyone confirm that the original postcard exists?

I wanted to throw this out here and see if anyone else on the boards has the 1950 card? I also want to ask for anyone who'd like to, to share whatever Trouppe cards (postcards too) they may have! It's always a treat to see cards that are unkown to me or relate to a favorite player of mine! It's a connection to a distant past and is a unique way in which we can view our history, experience it and learn of it and from it.

Thanks in advance! The 1950 card is attached below:

Jake

Q. Trouppe has several cards in the Cuban collections of the 1940s, as well as prints and photos. but you say you are looking for a specific card.

That's a great looking card!

I love the image on this card and have been searching for it for a while now. Regardless, I would love to acquire something from the 40s as well. I'd enjoy seeing whatever is out there and available.

I have seen that one before! Don't have that one. The only Trouppe item I have is a ticket stub from his only career MLB hit in 1952.

Roland 49 06-15-2021 08:59 PM

Jake, this morning I had little time, but before leaving my house I see in one of the places where I keep my collections the Alert and Newton folders together and as I have the complete collections I looked for Trouppe and I photographed him with my mobile, but I did not have time to look for more, tomorrow after I return home, I will look for more things, I plan to start with the card collections, it is possible that I have a contract, photos etc. I will tell you that when you started this thread I saw it, but I had no intention of seeing it again, yesterday I saw that it was at 0, no one had commented, and I decided to put my comment thinking that maybe something could help you, when I downloaded the photo of Trouppe , after 3 minutes they sent me a message asking me to put the photos in my 2 threads and I have done so, Jake Are you interested in knowing about any other player who was in Cuba? Rolando greets you.

Quincy Trouppe as Cleveland Indians Catcher

Quincy Trouppe played for the Cleveland Indians in only 6 games in May 1952. There are no contemporary cards of him as a Cleveland Indian. I was fortunate to pick up this ~4x5 William Jacobellis Photo off of ebay a few years ago, to add to my First Cleveland Card/Collectible collection.

I almost purchased that one! I was working out a lower price with the seller when it sold... I absolutely love that image!

Jake, now I found this ball signed by Quincy Trouppe of the Marianao 1950-51 team, I'm going to keep looking. I must have the 1949-50 one, but there are many, have you seen any?

I haven’t seen any signed baseballs from when he was a player, in fact I’ve only seen one other signed baseball from him and it was from the late 80s to early 90s. Almost everything you’ve shown me is new and something so haven’t seen before! This is extremely exciting for me! Thank you!

Jake, now I am sending you a photo that I took of a ball signed by Quincy Trouppe in the 1949-50 season, the 2 balls that I have photographed are very rare, the card you are asking is from 1949, O Diaz. You answer me when you see this, if you want I keep looking.

Whatever you're willing to keep sharing, I'd love to see! As a history student and a fan of Trouppe's my mind is blown right now! Thank you so much for sharing these pieces with me!

Here's another piece I've been looking for. I think it's a postcard from 1941 but all I've ever seen is this scan so it's tough to tell.

Jake was going to send you the 2 rosters in the same message but it took about 10 minutes to download the photo and I decided one, I don't know if there are problems on the site, now there is the 1950-51 program, I have more photos.

That's great! Trouppe looks younger here than he did the year before, he's like Benjamin Button! :D

Wanted to ask, did you get my PM?

Jake, now you will see part of a photo of Marianao that I edited so that you can see Adolfo Luque, Ray Dandridge and Trouppe next door but you can only see part of his face, what you are asking me at this moment cannot be due to covid ,

Jake previously put a photo of Dandridge and next to part of Trouppe's face, but I don't know if you saw it because you didn't answer, now you will see part of the Marianao team and the Trouppe center, edit this photo.
