Just a couple more of Brock Faber I decided to grab as he is now in the running/touted to be the possible Calder winner.
Currently in 2nd place points wise to Bedard, but because he is a defenseman who has logged over 30 minutes a game sometimes for the Wild, and still does OK on the points front, many are giving him a serious look. Great stories written about him, and especially his love for his handicapped/mentally challenged sister. Seems like a great kid that comes from a great family and, not going to lie, is also a part of the reason why I like him so much as well. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JIxZAFS9kZ8 https://www.facebook.com/LAKings/vid...6606044850109/ |
Today at our local show I bought this low grade Gordie Howe on the right. I knew it was a 1969-70 OPC but it didn't have a number on it. What the heck I paid the asking price of $5 and when I got home searched Ebay to see what it was. Well I discovered this card comes both numbered (#193) and unnumbered and when I checked the cards in my box discovered I already had the numbered version :)

Another Gretzky.

That's a very nice card, Peter. Is that an Italian language card or one of the English language ones that PSA labels as Italian?
|

The confusion is that PSA designates the other language versions on the flips, like this Finnish one, but not English.
https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/n20AA...Il/s-l1600.jpg I suppose they list Italy because the cards for the USA were printed either in Italy or Japan. |
It is confusing, but that said, for a multisport and miscellaneous sport RC collector, it's an amazing issue/series of issues.

Just crazy, imo, what these new Connor Bedard cards are currently going for. Hyped to the hill is an understatement, and I'm afraid many will be regretting their decision within a year or less?
Each to their own, and I'm certainly not wishing upon them what I just wrote as maybe I'm the one who is wrong, but I think the odds are in my favor? https://www.ebay.ca/itm/126364795632...Bk9SR4LIsZ3DYw https://www.ebay.ca/itm/296246097710...Bk9SR6r8x53DYw |

Some of his cards are already in Connor McDavid territory and he hasn't won a single thing yet. Not doubting his talent/skill at all because he's crazy good, but I don't recall ever seeing anything like this before for a rookie? Hope you get some great hits, Al, if you're cracking your box open. :) https://www.ebay.ca/itm/235463425297 |

Irv, I'm with you 100%. They better find this kid a Semenko or McSorley very soon or his frame will not live up to the abuse of big boy hockey. Let's face it, McDavid has a much larger frame and can take more punishment. I just don't see this kid as the next big superstar. I could be wrong. |

Imo, like you said, they need someone much tougher/bigger than Foligno. Corey Perry was there for a reason, but of course is now gone, so hopefully they have someone in mind in the near future/off season to fill that role. Personally, right now, I feel some are laying off, being kind to him as they don't want to be the one to be known as the one who put the NHL's budding superstar out, especially in his rookie year. We'll see how he makes out, and I wish him all the best, but I can't help but think, like you, that he isn't going to be the next big superstar without at least an entourage of bodyguards who can actually play with him. |
Picked up some modern cards as well as part set of the 1991-92 Future Trend Team Canada autos that were issued by The Bay as a box set.
They are the same as what came in the packs but do not have the swirl on the surface. The Bay box set has the same amount of auto as what the pack pulled set had(36 cards) But some players did not sign for The Bay. SO there are 12 players that did not make it into the Bay sets. But many players signed multiple cards Plus there are two autos that were never in packs. John Ferguson and the trainer Joe Sgro.As you can see by the scans.Someone tried to make a complete set of in person autos. They are all the ones signed in blue ink.The gold ink are from the Bay box set.Thanks. https://i.imgur.com/5dLdLu4.jpg https://i.imgur.com/gxq9Wzr.jpg https://i.imgur.com/9accwVm.jpg https://i.imgur.com/kdfRrXk.jpg https://i.imgur.com/L4QUkLg.jpg https://i.imgur.com/biqDXUq.jpg https://i.imgur.com/nQlyMvF.jpg https://i.imgur.com/rlZeTVO.jpg https://i.imgur.com/AfIaT0O.jpg https://i.imgur.com/hy97Nix.jpg https://i.imgur.com/EHsWHrt.jpg https://i.imgur.com/W56QOgi.jpg 1972 Team Canada Autos https://i.imgur.com/JaCSIP3.jpg https://i.imgur.com/C3vWbyE.jpg https://i.imgur.com/Kxo6Z1e.jpg https://i.imgur.com/2xrWP0Q.jpg https://i.imgur.com/oV2HYvz.jpg https://i.imgur.com/Ur2WOgq.jpg |
Never seen that Team Canada set before. Good stuff.

It is the only pack pull Dryden auto that has ever been released in any product.Mind you he has had cut autos in many products. That is why it is so expensive to buy if you can even find a copy.So shortly after the release of the product The Bay decided they would cash in on the excitement and pulled as many of the players together that would agree to a signing. Then they released those autos in a box set. But this box set was missing 12 of the big stars in the series. Even though the box set does have the same amount of autos.Just that some players had 2,3 and even 4 autos in the set. They also did a set for the 1976 series.Way less autos in that set. But Bobby Orr played in the 1976 series so he has an auto in that set. Thanks. |
Picked up a Topps Gretzky with a 1980s signature. Being in pen, it kind of gets lost against the darker parts of the card but happy to have it.

Just some random pick ups over the last couple/few months.
|
Bought one box of the 22-23 Parkhurst Champions and pulled this redemption. What surprised
me was just how fast Upper Deck go me the card. Less than 10 days (7 business days). So good for Upper Deck. Thank you. Very nice card,3 colour patch plus an auto. So not really a pick up. Thanks. https://i.imgur.com/Dvg6oU1.jpg https://i.imgur.com/1yTMG8H.jpg https://i.imgur.com/5d4VnT2.jpg |
OK, I picked up these couple pictures of Wayne Gretzky and Bobby Orr.I have no idea where or how
they were obtained back in the day. So any help there would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Wayne Gretzky Measure 8-1/8 inches X 10-1/2 inches https://i.imgur.com/kUhrzhI.jpg Bobby Orr measures 10-7/8 inches X 16-1/4 inches https://i.imgur.com/0KCYBvS.jpg |
1957 Parkhurst HOF Jean Beliveau arrived today from the great white north, leaving me two cards shy of the complete set Henri and Maurice Richard left to go!

So this is more of a project than a pick up that I have been working on for the last couple months.
I recently purchased a good amount of the 1972 Team Canada autographs. Some were from the set released by the Hudson Bay company signed in gold sharpie. But others were signed in blue sharpie and I really liked the blue on the 1991 Future Trend cards. These were the same cards that if you were lucky back in 1991 you could pull one of the Team Canada autos from the packs. These autos are very scarce and to this day remains the only packed pull auto of Ken Dryden. Which is next to impossible to find and when you do they cost a lot of money to obtain. So I knew these packed pull autos with that swirl on the surface were not something I wanted to undertake So I went with the blur autos and since I had a very nice set of the 1972 O-Pee-Chee Team Canada. I figured why not just collect the autos of the 28 players in this OPC set. Take notice that the Dryden is a cut auto. I did buy a Dryden PSA.DNA Dryden auto but I decided that I would sooner keep that auto and go with this much cheaper version. It is an auto from one of his book signings. But it still looks very nice. And as you can tell I would really like to pick up a Bobby Clarke and a Gary Bergman in blue ink so it would look uniform all the way through So if anyone has either of these two players signed in blue ink on the 1991 Future Trend card then PLMK.I see a few Clarke autos on eBay but they are in the USA and people want like $25.00 for postage. When they could just place in an envelope and send it for under $2.00.But I will eventually find them. So that is the back story so on with what they look like. Imo, they are an underrated card/collectable. I grabbed this Orr sometime ago and found out through a member here finding Orr or any of the others in 10's is rather difficult/rare. Likely due to their size/shape, they aren't as desirable as regular cards and why they've never really taken off? But, then again, maybe some out there do have complete graded/raw sets? |

I really like oddball cards like Dad’s Cookies. I have to imagine the print run was much more limited than the regular OPC/Topps sets but I could be wrong.
|
Quote:
absolutely a lot smaller run then either of the two major releases. I just purchased over 150 of the 1928-1934 LaPresse photos and with them only being distributed in the province of Quebec you can imagine how few are out there. And now that are 90+ years old. They are really quite scarce. |
