A couple recent arrivals. I obviously don't know for sure, but I think Nicklas Backstrom will be a HOF'r someday? Great numbers, long career, Stanley Cup and a couple other awards should do it, imo.
Anyone else think/believe this? Records Youngest Swedish player ever in World Championship (18 years and 6 months).[35] First NHL rookie to record four assists in two consecutive games.[36] Most assists in a season by a rookie, Washington Capitals team record (56 assists), 2007–08 season. Most assists in Washington Capitals franchise with 684 NHL Young Stars Game 2008 NHL All-Rookie Team 2008 Viking Award 2009, 2015 NHL All-Star Game 2016 Stanley Cup champion 2018 |
Hi Dale,
In my opinion Backstrom is a lock for the Hall |
I persevered through these Auction Sites being hacked, and up and down auctions to win some low grade hits to my '51-'52 and '52-'53 Parkhurst sets!

A few recent adds. A Nathan McKinnon young guns was out of the question due to its massive price increase lately so I thought this Fleer Ultra was a good alternative.
Also quite happy to pick up this, The Cup, Mike Bossy signed HOF induction card. :) |

This one was purchased prior to what I wrote above so it doesn't count. :D
Marcel Dionne, 71-72 OPC RC. Real happy with this one! The condition is fantastic and looks much better in hand than what it did in the sellers scans. |

There is a tiny little speck of something near Marcel's right ear that is stuck on there very good. I seen it in the sellers scans but I assumed/was hoping if was just dirt on his scanner's surface but that wasn't the case. Regardless of that, and the fact it shows up more from a scan than it does in hand, I am still real happy with it. |

Beautiful pick ups. Really like the signed book and the black bottom print Orr.
One of my favorite Orr's. Picked this up last week and it's now on it's way to Steve. |

Will always pick up centered Gretzky and Lemieux opc rookies in any grade.
Got these off ebay this month. |

A couple recent arrivals. Terry Sawchuk and Pat Verbeek.
Pat Verbeek is not a HOF'r but I just recently found out his birthday is exactly the same as mine. Same day, same month, same year, so I thought I'd grab it up just for fun. :) |

Congrats. I've always thought SGC grades tougher, among other things, compared to PSA so I am not surprised at all to read you think that Lemieux belongs in a 10 holder. |
1954 Parkhurst #26 Leo Boivin with the Lucky Premium back. Just need one more for the full set with the LP backs!

Great pick ups

Anything Bobby Orr is a sweet pick up.
|
It's no secret that I don't know much about hockey or hockey history, but I really like the cards. And when I knock a card off my list I enjoy reading about the player. Like this 1955-56 Parkhurst Georges Vezina who was a member of the original class of nine inductees to the hockey hall of fame in 1945. I didn't even know there is an award for the best goalie each year in the NHL. The Vezina Trophy. I don't even need a price guide to tell me that this gum stained card was worth $16. Five more cards needed for this set.

Next two hits 1951-52 Parkhurst including #81 Max Bentley HOF 1966 and 1954-55 Parkhurst #65 Johnny Bower (with the Lucky Premium back) rookie card HOF 1976 and two time Vezina Trophy winner. I admit I had to come off my wallet a little bit for the Bower RC.

Final group of 1957-58 Parkhurst cards takes me down to needing five more for my set. #2 Ed Chadwick didn't have a great NHL career but that sure is a nice card, #3 2006 Hall of Fame member Dick Duff, then Bob Pulford who was a long time player and NHL coach HOF 1991.

Liked the centering on this one.

Always liked this card when opening 1985 topps hockey so had to get this.

The centering was near perfect on this one so got this one too.

A couple old and a couple new.
Clark Gillies OPC RC 75-76 and an OPC Bobby Orr 76-77. Both cards were rather tough to find centered so I'm glad I was able to get both of these. |
As my first post on this board I thought I would show my favorite card that I added to my PC a couple of weeks ago:
https://i.imgur.com/5QIRSSu.jpg It's not my highest dollar card, nor is it in great condition, but to me this is one of those cards you take in any grade you can get because they don't grow on trees. IMO the 1965 Topps Bobby Orr is/should be the hockey equivalent of the 1952 Topps Mantle. Similar eras, iconic card, Mount Rushmore hockey player, and extremely scarce. Love, love, love this card. |

Larry, just picked up my PSA 1 yesterday, ironically my card must have been in the same stack as your card during the grading process being 1 digit ahead of yours! Fun stuff. |
Quote:
But you're absolutely right. In fact, your copy ran at auction four or five weeks ago and I lost the auction by THREE DOLLARS. Talk about disappointment. But the next day the same seller listed another one that was graded in the same batch, and I won that auction which is the card I posted above. He actually sold a third one after that as well that had been bent in half with a huge crease down the middle. Whoever bought your copy relisted it on eBay maybe a week ago on a BIN/OBO and it looks like you got the deal done :) It's a great looking PSA 1 for sure! I wish I had bid a few dollars more lol |

Are you gonna bust it open? |
Thanks Irv.
Yes, to me getting the Topps box seems like much more fun to open than an OPC box. The thought of spending so much more money and possibly getting just one very off center Lemieux and one Gretzky in the OPC box didn't make sense. The Topps box gives me certainly 2 and more than likely 3 Lemieuxs and Gretzkys. My chances of pulling higher grades are in the Topps box as well. Having said that, it would be a lot of fun to pull a high grade Gretzky and Lemieux in OPC. |

A few new additions from a variety of sellers that all arrived today.
Real happy with the Denis Potvin OPC RC. It was, at least for me, real tough to find centered. Most cards I looked at were completely absent of the white border on the left side so I was real happy when I seen this one. Also been after this Zdeno Chara RC for a while but they are, or were, fairly tough to come across. This one has its issues but they look way worse in the scan than they do it hand but I guess in this case, the scan doesn't lie. Also happy to finally land a decently centered Ron Francis OPC RC. Greatly under appreciated, valued player, imo. Hoping he has good luck as the 1st GM of the expansion team the Seattle Kraken. :) |
1951-52 Parkhurst HOF RC Fernie Flaman arrives from the great white north. Now 76% complete putting the set together with 80 diff of the 105 card set. The 80th card in my cardboard box? #80 Fernie Flamen lol!

Despite my many collecting interests, my largest player collection is of Jari Kurri with over a thousand unique items (and since I'm a bit of a hoarder probably fifteen hundred or more overall). A fan from the early '80s, despite an extensive collection, this one has eluded me since the beginning. A fine Finnish gentleman ran this one down for me in trade for a rare Finnish issue of another player. I have dealt with so many Europeans, especially Finns, over the years in the building of my collection and they have been amazing people to deal with. I have only seen a very few of these ever, so acquiring this one is exciting and a key addition to my collection. Thought I'd show it here as it is a lesser seen item.
*(my apologies Irv, I know you've seen it elsewhere) 1978-79 Finnish SM-Liiga Jari Kurri https://images20.fotki.com/v1666/pho...MG_2776-vi.jpg |

Some recent additions that all arrived together again today.
Unfortunately, I don't think I will be keeping the Larry Robinson as it arrived not as described due to a fairly large noticeable crease in the bottom left corner that goes through to the back. (It wasn't noticeable in the scan nor much in this screw down but is clearly visible out of it) |
