Stats on Cards
It might be just me, but I have a particular fondness for cards that show a unique stat line on the back. Two of my favorites: the T205 Ed Walsh, which is the only card that shows a pitcher winning 40 games, and the 1957 Topps Ted Williams, the only card that has a .400 batting line (with qualifying plate appearances). Any other examples people can think of?

1962 Topps Roger Maris with 61 HRs and the 1969 Topps Bob Gibson with 1.12 ERA are two others that come to mind.

Not a unique stat, but I love the last card of a players career that was made after / or right before they retired....like the '69 Topps Mickey Mantle....being able to see their entire career stats on one last card is awesome in my book....

Anyone ever notice discrete or statistical errors on cards?
Mickey Mantle's last card #500 from 1969 Topps contains a statistical error. YEAR 1955 notes AVG. of .307, when in fact is actually .306. All prior Topps cards with this year's stat. correctly note .306. And interestingly enough, the Major League Totals line on Mick's 1969 Topps card correctly reflects lifetime AVG. of .298 (which would be derived with a 1955 AVG. of .306 (not .307 as noted on the card). Fun Fact: If Mick had only 1 additional hit in each of his 18 seasons, he would have ended up in the 300 Club, with a career total of 2433 hits from 8120 at bats! |
It's not really a stat, per se, but if we're talking about card backs, there's at least one creepy one (from the 60's on a rookie card?) which notes the player passed away, almost as an afterthought. Yowza!!

If I recall correctly, T205s were the first cards with stats on the back.
